I thinking that my 96 Z28 camaro is too meek and mild, so its time to think about exhausts.
I'm naturally tight with money, so I was wondering abour a cut-out:

Has anybody any experience with them?

Alternatively any other recommendations would be gratefully received.

Stock cats do a pretty effective silencing job so you can junk the rear silencer and just get some new pipe bent and welded in. It's a single pipe over the axle so you just need a y-piece and the appropriate lengths of pipe.

However, if you fancy a nice stainless system that won't rip your wallet out, have a day out to Cardiff and visit Charlie at www.pro-speedexhausts.com who will make you one up.

Thing is that cut-outs are all very well but by the time you pay the shipping and duty, it's not particulary cheap.

My 93 LT1 Camaro runs Flowmaster Loud Mouth exhaust system and the sound is true to the name! They make decent power too, but I have always thought that a cut out would be fun.

Do a web search for Webster Race Engineering, they will supply a Flowmaster system I think

I've been thinking about getting a whole new custom system, I want to do track day so need to try and keep standard system to about 98db, but was looking at getting cutouts for silly volume when required...

My Z28 has an adjustable Borla system, not cheap but it sounds great and is very nicely made.

Strangely enough, i'm trying to do the opposite to my 440 Dart, i've got 3" flowmasters and i'm changing them to Dynamax's to quieten it down.

I just got my 99 Camaro's stock exhaust replaced with an IMCO Flowmaster copy. Less than 300 quid ordered and fitted. Might not be what you want - has the V8 burble at idle, sounds raucous but not "deafen the neighbours" loud...

Cutout is a good idea if you want quiet and loud. I'd go for an eleccy one though.

For a budget exhaust might want to look at the Texas Speed & Performance TSP Rumbler. Just Google Texas Speed & Performance.

Thanks for the wisdom. Looks like a few phone calls now required to see what the recommended poeple say and charge.

How do I contact Ian Goss? Is he still in business? His web site appears to have ceased to be (it is an ex-website) http://www.iangoss.co.uk/

Apparently our Custom Chrome pipework is "quite loud"

what is your Custom Chrome Pipework exactly? (I do hope this isn't a euphemism for something in the trouser department)

I hope thats not chrome... in fact I bet Mrs Mighty is bloody glad its not!

Custom Chrome are based in the midlands but have fitters around the country I believe and do bespoke performance exhaust systems. The exhaust on ours was fitted before we got it and I was thinking at first of swapping to a Borla adjustable system, but I'm getting quite fond of what we've got now.

Mine is just a side pipe installed before the cat with a 3 bolt cap and a down pipe that I bolt on when the cap is off so it doesn't start a fire. It dumps just after where the passengers feet are. Sounds like a Lancaster coming in on a wing and a prayer but it's a cheap effective install with no special import parts necessary.
