Navigation PRO 2008-2 dvd

Does anyone know if the 2008-2 dvd has been released yet? I'm off to France in 4 weeks so would like to get the most current disk before then if I can.

I believe it is out, you may also need to update the OS running on the nav drive as it the disc is now dual layer, so please check.

what difference does dual layer mean?? and does it include speed cams?? infact does the new disc offer new features at all?

Can you just update the os or the drive to make it read dual layer drives? I thought they were a different thing entirely.

Software update required for MkIV units. Available online if search.

Non, other than you can get twice as much stuff on the disc, eg; map data, more POI'S etc.

Nope, just newer maps, I doubt that BMW/Navteq/VDO/Seimons will ever produce a map disc with speed cameras on, it's to much of a legal mine field...

eg: Say you have the a OEM disc with speed cams on, you then pass a camera location that's not on your map (because it's new) and you get done, does this mean that you can then sue BMW/Navteq/VDO/Seimons because they failed to warn you of the speed cam??? common sense says no, but there are always morons fueled by ambulance chasers looking for a "free" pay out.

They are, the drive is just a dumb cd/dvd player, the OS is the means that the car can then "talk" to the drive, so if the drive has the old OS on it won't read the DL map disc.

As for how it's done on the I-drive I'm not 100% sure, you may need a trip to the dealer, buying the 2008-2 map disc alone may not work that's all I'm saying.

On the mk3/mk4 the OS update can be done by downloading the latest (v31) OS and DIY.

an idiots guide to DIY software update would be much appreciated. Have a '54 plate 535d with pro nav.

I think (not 100% sure) that the dealer will do a £99 exchange for your old disc, but this may have been a limited offer, It's still steep though.

Like I said, I'm not sure about updates for the PRO system, (I have an e46 with the HIGH system), but have a look on the x5worls navigation forum and ask away, they are very good on there.

I have a 2008-2 disc, and had quite old firmware on there (can't remember exactly but was before the D/L was introduced according to X5World). I updated to V31 anyway, as I wanted perspective mode.
