Also posted on the TVRCC forum.

Next week, we take our older TVR shed to Europe for 5 days. We have RAC European recovery as part of our RAC membership, but with a vehicle over 11 years old, it's important that the RAC are notified - there is an additional premium, typically 2 years ago for a 6 day trip to Zolder, we were charged 35 pounds.

This year we phoned and were advised the premium was 100 pounds. After a discussion with another car club member, who's older TVR is regularly taken overseas, we were told that as a member of an MSA affiliated club, the charge should be waived. Sure enough, quoted TVR car club membership number, and the charge is zippo.

Another benefit of car club membership.

Many thanks to Sue and Dave Griffin.

I intended to stop posting and had my last profile removed. But then I realised that there are the odd things you know that you can share and make peoples life easier...

So, I will try not get drawn into touchy postings now, and only offer friendly advice where I can.whistle

Changed person? Nope, still daft, still not grown up, and in no rush to do so.

Be very wary of RAC European Cover as any damage done to your car after it is recovered but before it is collected by the British recovery outfit is down to the owner apparently. The fact that you don't control who uplifts your p&j or have any say in where it is stored is irrelevant. Just cost me well over £1000 to learn that lesson but its not over yet!

Just for info, I pay €79,- to ADAC for full European cover.
They shipped my Tuscan back from Germany to England last year after only 5 weeks membership, no quiblles and gave me a car while I got mine sorted.
I can only say a very very good organisation.

Good to know. And that covers all European countries?

That's very interesting, as I was under the impression that they used OnTime, as when I had a spot of bother not that far from where you had yours a couple of years ago, I rang them to ask them who they used. I then contacted OnTime directly, who brought the car back no problem, once they had relieved me of an arm and a leg!

Let us know how you get on with getting your £1000 back. Good Luck!

Hi Liz,

Will let you know the outcome whenever. Don't know the name of the British recovery company but HHC said it was the same one that delivers their new Lotuses. No beef with them, they recorded the damage when they uplifted the car but by this time it had been lying wherever for 2/3 weeks.

Hi Nikman,
Yes, covers all Europe, although I will check the details. Maybe there are one or two eastern countries not covered.
What was interesting to me was that they wanted to send the car to a German specialist but when I explained it had a warrantee from an English Engine Specialist, they just said "OK it goes there". And they updated me on progress.

While doing a serch on AA/RAC cover, I found you guys have mentioned in a few threads about ADAC Plus cover. Do you use it as a replacement for UK cover, or just for Euro trips? Has anyone needed a call out in the UK?

And does the ADAC cover also include motorbikes?

Cheers

First, yes they cover motor bikes.

There are three levels of cover with the ADAC.
The first is domestic in Germany.
The second is ADAC PLUS which covers Europe.
The third is world wide and includes air ambulance etc.

For the Euro cover, I would have expected that if you break down anywhere in Europe then they would recover your car back to Germany.
However, when I enquired, they said "No, if not easily repairable, to your home country".
They provved this only a few weeks after I joined.
I had a valve shim jump out. They sent a "basic" inspector to look and who advised them that it was a serious problem and not to be driven. He said normally they would want to send it to a specialist in Germany but as the car was covered by a warrantee in the UK they should transport my car direct to that workshop. Two weeks later in was in the UK.
Most speak good English. They are a pleasure to deal with.

First year was €83 and last year €79.
Now thinking of upgrading to world cover.

I also have ADAC cover and as So Called says, Euro 79 for full European cover, 365 days a year. Over the years, I've broken down in UK a few times (AA sent) and once in Spain (Race sent) and ADAC have always been very efficient.
