I wrote to ITV, and had a reply...but was telling ITV that Brundle is why we watch F1 and without him advertisers would not be spending much nneded revenue with the broadcaster. His comments were harmless and there are more issues in the world than that.
ITV did respond but with the usual bland correspondence.

I think this has all been blown out of proportion. They had 7 complaints. Seven. I think more people have complained if a newsreader has worn a garishly coloured tie.

Pikey describes the feckless, low living, law breaking hoards of vermin who move around the country despoiling neighbourhoods and avoiding paying their dues (often claiming bogus status as if they are somehow some nomadic race of historic travellers when they are modern day vagrants from totally different backgrounds - I'll avoid extra offence by not remarking on the surprising number from a certain western island off our coast rather than from medieval central Europe!).
God knows how much Council tax is spent on paying to placate, 'field', support and then clear up after the scum. And now OFFBEAM (publicly funded anyone?) are paying to investigate a joke on their behalf. What a libertarian country we now live in thanks to the politically correct liberal 'elite' (ironic) running this pit.

"Pikey" is a word much like "chav". A Brit would not consider it anywhere near as offensive as "nigger" but it is derogatory. It means someone who is low class traditionally either of of gypsy or Irish descent, and likely to work as a labourer. A less derogatory term is "Navvie". Both these terms are many years old. "Pikey" being derived from the word "Turnpike" or toll-road - "Pikeys" would immigrate to the UK to work building the Turnpikes..I'm not up to scratch with British slang, so I'm quite curious about the issue.
Used today to describe theiving low-life new age travellers...rather than upstanding, honest, itinerant workers...
