I am membership secretary for the Brighton and Hove Motor Club, and a competitor in this event.
If anyone would like to take part next year, please get in touch. Here's a breakdown of the likely cost...
MSA competition license: £40
BHMC membership: £20
Approved helmet: From £60
Approved race suit: From £100
Entry Fee: £100
Aside from the entry fee, most of these expenses will also give you entry to other motorsport events, including the Goodwood Sprint also organised by the BHMC.
Of course, prices may have changed for this year but I doubt by much.If anyone would like to take part next year, please get in touch. Here's a breakdown of the likely cost...

was also sprinting at Lydden on saturday (orange/blue mini) and was very impressed by the speed of your car, assuming it far from standard? Not bad trophies were they?

Yeah, very nice trophies i thought. I've seen some horrible cheap tat while racing bikes. This is the first time i have taken one home though, and it felt great. Even sitting and looking at it, it doesn't look plasticky. You got one as well then?
I remember your car; i always like to wander around the pits looking at stuff.
Yes, you are right, my car is very far from standard:
Ported engine
big single turbo
V-mount intercooler
water injection
Tein coilovers
6-pot APs
mostly stripped out
carbon tailgate and perspex rear glass
GRP bonnet
the list goes on but thats the important stuff i guess: 420hp at the fly, under 1200kgs.
Its been built as a giant-killing track car (and numerous GT3s and even an F40 have fallen to it on track) but i wanted to try a little competition. Its a different day out, less track time but more pressure.
To be honest i thought i'd be in trouble from the Time Attack Scooby; his practice time was 5/100ths off my winning time (81.02) but he binned it first time out and never recovered. It was dripping money and was obviously used hard (splitter held on by gaffer tape etc). He even changed to mega-sticky rubber after the first run but it wasn't enough. We had a chat at the trophy-giving; he reckons that first off bent the anti-roll bar drop links and made a real mess of the underneath, hence the screwy handling.
I am back there on Saturday for a track day; a mate just bought a heavily-modded Elise yesterday and wants to try it out so its all we could find at short notice. I like the place; people think its too small and therefore unchallenging but the cambers and elevations make it far more complicated than it first appears.
I am booked in for not only the Speed Trials but also the Goodwood Sprint on 1st August. May do Longcross next month as well.
cheers
Andy
Hi Andy,
that's not giant killing, you need a mini for that!
I beat the GT3 RS and all the Lotuses on Saturday so was pleased with that. Our car is also far from standard, 140bhp and 550kg and pretty much ideal for Lydden (84.21 best to date).
Agree, it's a very underated track, all good corners and tricky to get right.
We're out at Goodwood on the 28th June (TWMC sprint, 2 lap event, very good as you get a chance to get into a rhythm). Suspect you'd pull out a bit more than three seconds on us there!
