I have recently put Google Analytics on my website, and have been watching the numbers, but I can't seem to find out what 'bounce rate' means. I have googled it, but don't really get what it says, so can anyone explain it for me please (in simple terms if possible)

The figures are currently saying I have an average bounce rate on the site of about 17%, is this good or bad?

Many thanks

Kinky

Basically it's the percentage of people who visit your homepage then clear off without visiting another page on your site.

I've seen numbers to suggest that circa 22% is good, so your 17% seems pretty good.

17% is very good and I suspect that is because most people who visit your website either have it bookmarked or are searching for you by name. Little bit of extra work on some SEO and PPC would do you the power of good smile Lots of books and sites that can help....I'm sure you can get pointed in the right direction on here too.

Ok thanks for that.

I can't afford to spend much on promoting the site, I had added Adsense to it, and have been listing on all the free places that I can think of (business directories, shopping directories etc) Also have a small shop on DaWanda and Pinkdoodle, with the website mentioned, and lots of reciprocal links with other jewellery and bead makers.

I have noticed that about 60% of my traffic is coming from referring sites, including a couple of visitors from here.

I just wanted to know what this bounce rate thing meant.
