Read in the bible that i should use mobil atf 220 in gearbox AND power steering?
Sounds strange but is it true.
Any suggestions.

Yes, it's true AFAIK. I certainly used it in my power steering when I had my Chim.

Funny enough, where to get it was my next question.
I`m told it`s cheaper in france so a day trip could be on the cards!!!!!

I have some left over from when I used it (could only buy a HUGE bottle and used about a thimble full)... you are welcome to come and take it if you like.

For PAS use get a Dextron III compatible fluid. About £4 for a bottle. Not worth going to France for. Even Halfords sell it!

Check out my thread on PAS problems which the last post is about 3 weeks ago. If it continues to lose fluid, check to see if your steering rack is leaking

My experience was that the PAS system isn't that fussy about the fluid as long as it's pukka automatic transmission stuff.

Any auto trans fluid will do for power steering, ATF, Dexron, whatever.
