I need to replace the inner chrome reflector disc thingy on the headlamps but figure i might as well replace the glass while i'm at it, would it be worth fitting those hdi (think thats the name) light units while i'm at it and if someone could give me a ruff guide of how long the job takes and the work involved i'd be very greatfull or post me a link and i'll read away, nearly forgot the origanal reason for posting lol, where's best to get them from as i also need a throttle cable and i've seen a price of 50 squid for that but i'm guessing its off another make of car.
cheer's.

Hi Phil sorry for the delay in responding but been away

They were H4 replacements so they will fit standard bowls. They are made by Bosch and were supplied by TOP GEAR Automotive in Wolverhampton

if you need their number please let me know

cheers

I seem to have aquired a problem that needs sorting out before i actually get round to replacing my head lamps, bloody shame cus next weekend i'm hoping my new wheels have arived but regarding this thread i was just wondering before the headlamps and cowlings are all sealed up and fitted is it worth getting them aligned so as not to have to strip everything back?

Not wanting to P**s on you fire but fitting after market HID's to standard halogen reflectors and lenses is, I believe, technically illegal. Cut and paste this link to you browser - http://www.dft.gov.uk/pgr/roadsafety/drs/hidheadla...

Hi Mooey, had a read and yep when i fitted them to older bmw it was new headlamps, bulbs and self leveling. The bosch centre i bought them off would not sell them without self leveling!

However, this kit i fitted to my chim is made by Bosch for H4 lamps specifically and i did fit new bosch bowls at the same time. There was no mention of self leveling. I dont believe a company like bosch would have designed such a kit without taking these requirements into consideration. I'm not out much at night but when i am the difference is very significant and no other drivers have flashed me to say they where too bright. With the BMW I frequently got flashed even though they were set up properly with new lens and self leveling.

What did you use to glue the headlamps back in with?

I just used silicone sealant to glue mine back in. Made a better job of sealing the lights than the TVR effort, which didn't stop the dust. I didn't bother with the rubber seal which had long since perished.

Incidently, I had my reflectors rechromed after failing pickerl (MOT) for dim and dirty lights. I replaced the 100w bulbs with new 85w ones, The 100w old bulbs were now more like candles. Couldn't find 100w locally and was told that although they start bright 100w bulbs will dim more rapdidly than std bulbs, and so there's no advantage. Are 100w bulbs still legal... Austria, Germany, UK????

I gently cleaned the chrome. Naturally, the chrome fell off!!

The rechromed lights have a very thick layer and look great. Time will tell if they last any longer than the originals -- about 14 years
