A4 Fridge / coolbox

I have one of these and never used it. Tried to get it work - nothing and then started investigating. At the back there is a wheel to trun - unscrewed this and black plastic duct which just seems to turn the bend and opens into the footwell.
Should this end connect into something? Is this just a complete gimmick?
Anyone have any ideas?

PS I am not the mumpty who spent an extra £60 for this, as the car is second hand!

Fridge works by blowing in cold air, so only works when air-con is running. During cold weather warm air will be blown in so you need to shut the little valve.

I found it worked reasonably well during the summer months but it's a bit of a con!

Does yours have a tube that just blows in via the tube I mentioned or is there something connected to the end of yours?

Alas I've now sold the car but as I said the fridge was working so I assume it was fully connected to the air con system. Don't recall seeing any dangling tubes in the footwell!
