hi all

can anybody give me some advice?
i have a 98 4.2 cerbera
the battery was not holding a charge
so i replaced it today
it fired up 1st turn so i was happy ( job done )
it ran for about 5 mins then it cut out now it wont fire atall ( gutted )

there are a few factors that may be relavent

1. the new battery turns the car over much much faster than the old one ( though im sure that is a good thing )

2. i removed the engine bay cover under the windscreen
and it was off a few days ( and yes it rained )
so i thought it may be the coil packs
thought it is not even trying to misfire

3. i have recently replaced the oil pressure sender switch
iit had been running fine after this ~( could i have dislodged somthing? )

4. i have check the big fuse its fine

5. has my car got a emergency cut off switch anywhere?
though there does seem to be fuel at the injectors

any advice would be greatfully received

thanks in advance Dave

Is it turning over, or just dead?

hi
thanks for the info
it is not the emergency cut off but thanks for the location

i have just had a plug out and found that there is plenty of fuel getting in but no spark atall
if it was the coil packs would it not try to misfire
it just seems strange that it went from running fine to not firing atall

is it possible that my new more powerful battery has scrambled the ecu somehow?

anyway i will keep trying
anymore thoughts would be great

Once you've got the engine running thy will dry out biggrin.
When they get old the coil packs can get little cracks in them, so you probably wont be able to see any water. Use a Hairdryer to dry them out, just position it in the right place and leave it running for an hour before trying again (or if your anything like me every 5 minutes).
It's a bit strange that it did run for 5 minutes before stopping! You sure it hasn't run out of petrol? Go on, give us a laugh and tell us thats all it was.

hi all

thanks for all the advice
i have sorted it smile
when i replaced the oil pressure switch under the coil pack
i traped the wire going to that coil under the fuel line so it was shorting on the block
it starts and runs now however its a bit lumpy
so i am going to replace the coil packs anyway (probably not been done for ages

thanks Dave
