Hi everyone. Has anyone any experience of hiring a Ferrari for self drive in Sicily? I'm on holiday in Taormina in August and would like one for a couple of days.

My family contacts in Northern Italy can't help, all they can find me is wedding cars!

Any help would be gratefully received.

Hmmm - I saw a couple of Masers from the mainland in Taormina last week - a Coupe and a Quattroporte. Apart from a couple of Porkers, these were the only high-end cars I saw. I thought the owners were exceedingly brave - there is no way I'd take mine there. Almost every car is battle scarred.

Sorry can't help with the Ferrari hire though.

Why not hire in Northern Italy and Ferry the car via Genoa-Palermo route?

Drive in Salerno and you'll see why this is a bad idea!

We have friends living in Sicily, who used to live in Palermo and drive an older model Porsche Turbo, but moved to the "country" and sold the car as a) roads outside the main cities and off the motorway can be really bad and b) there is still a high level of poverty in Sicily, where a supercar would just attract too much negative attention. We normally go for a high engined Alfa or similar.
