Guys, After a bit of a wait I managed to get my hands on the taxed and tested Tasmin 2.0 convertible. Lovely little thing really, although I am not going to lose my licence in it. However , it's been laid up for about 8 years I reckon and after it first proper drive trhough London traffic back to my house when I got home there was smoke coming from the passenger side rear wheel arch. It smelled of clucth .... Any ideas ? It took a watering can or two to dampen it down!

Hope you are bringing the beast to the fest ! You may get one or two wedgers mentioning the ease with which something more potent will slip in the engine bay !bounce

Yeah it could easily be the handbrake. Lack of use makes them prone to binding. Give the handbrake a few good hard pulls and you might get a bit more slack. Check for binding with the rear wheels off the road.

I'd say definately brakes/handbrake binding.

When I bought my first TVR (280i FHC) it had been standing for a year, and I experienced the same thing during the first day or two.

I took it down to a local classic Jag specialist, and he freed it all off for me. No probs after that. smile

In that case also check the UJs; the heat from the brakes binding can cause the grease to melt and flow out.

actualy might think it's from the exhaust touching the body -just let it run for 15 mins earlier tonight and 'the smell' returned. not to worry I will sort it/pay to get it sorted.

By the way , I'm Daryl ,live in Sydenham SE London , the car is silver , has awful looking but comfy wolfrace seats in it ...erm, and yeah the 4 pot engine has a certain charm!
