I just wondered if anyone out there had heard of this one or had any ideas :scrratchchin: ...
Normally I'd assume 'yes' but Adrian Blyth hasn't seen it before ... though (being the top dealer I have found him to be) he's agreed to have it checked out under his personal warranty.

Sometimes when I press the driver's side door release button on the mirror ('98 Chim) it not only activates the driver's door solenoid but also the boot solenoid which opens the boot.
The big worry is that this happens even if the central locking/alarm is on and so even if the door is locked securely the boot can open to give up all its contents (etc. IYKWIM) to any wouldbe thief.

I seem to remember a thread about this before, and that it is in fact a known "feature". If you hold the button for longer than normal, it releases the boot.
I did try this at the time, on mine, but it didn't do anything. I personally thought it was a good idea, if you do have to press it for longer that is.

This was a "feature" provided by Fernhurst, but should only work if the alarm is deactivated

Ah-ha ... plot thickens or becomes clearer (depending which way you look at it).

This was originally a Fernhurst demonstrator car so it looks like it may have had the modification but it has since gone a bit 'doo-lally' since it operates when the alarm is on and only on a short press ... intermittently of course!

Further to the above, and thanks to those who pointed me in the right direction, I have investigated further using this new information as a base and it looks like it may be operating OK ...

It looks like the "doors remain locked and boot still opens" only occurs during the 'arming' phase of the alarm so that after the 15 seconds or so while it settles down (giving you time to get clear) it seems to be secure.
As to the length of time on the button I guess I just may not have realised I was leaving my finger pressing after the door opened as it seems to be quite consistent now!

Thanks again to all ... I'll keep an eye on it just in case though!
