Hi folks - had a great run out in the 4.2 today but something strange happend approaching the Huntingdon Tesco -I'm not sure if my car has a Huntingdon detector fitted. I was minding my own business and all of a sudden, the windows, which were both down about a couple of inches, suddenly sprang into life and syncronously wound themselves right up. Being of a clostraphobic nature, I was immediatley put on edge at the thought of being shut in yikes - although I realise the manual overide is there if it works. Anyone had this ?

There was a section of Skipton Road in Harogate which used to do this on a lot of cerbs as i was test driving them .. for no reason both windows would just close themselves. very strange and I never did work out what it was that caused it .. but it was always at the same point on my test route. Bizarre.

Do a search on Wiki for HIRF and low flying a/c , could be an answer .

Probably no events at the weekend.

Quite possible it was electrical interferance. Newer car electronics are supposed to be less prone to this electronic fog.

I used to work at a Vauxhall main dealer & at one of the branches a salesman was facing the sack because various cars on a forecourt were found to be unlocked. The salesman swore blind he had locked all the cars the night before. The same thing occured a couple days later with another salesman.

As no fault could be found with the cars Vauxhall became involved & established it was an external source working on the same frequency as the cars alarms which has been negated now by rolling encryption systems.

In the end the culprit was traced to a new Hospital being built nearby where they where testing the new Ambulance station communication system....lots of red faces laugh

Thanks for the repsonses folks. Had a chuckle reading some of those :-). Ok so nothing specifically wrong with the eletrics on the car then, just an interference issue of some sort. There is light aircraft airfield at Warboys. Well actually there's RAF stuff all over the place here too. So lets blame them ! biggrin Be nasty if it got hold of your cruise control.

I had a bit of a laugh reading this, then today I took my Cerb out for a spin. I have had the car for 5 months now with no problems, then coming past Robin Hood Airport, the window went up in two stages- I put it back down and it has not done it again and had never done it before? I will check next time I drive down there and see if I get the same result (2003 S6). strange one!

Mine has done this twice. They just go up completely on there own. Only ever happened when I have one open but I assume it works on both reading the above.

Very strange.

I will keep an eye out to see if it happens in the same areas smile
