Cracking Noise....

Hello there, managed to lock myself out of my old 4rby account somehow so starting afresh!

Just washed the Chim - on the way home it idled at around 600 - 700 rather than the usual 1000 and a loud "crack" would occasionally come from the engine - never done this before!

Part of me is thinking (and really hoping) that its just a bit of moisture ingress causing something odd - any ideas?!

Thanks again to anyone who can help, PH has always been the first port of call or these kind of things and is always much appreciated!

If this has started after washing it would be wise to begin looking at the effect of electrical issues brought about by damp.

I would start by running the car on idle in the dark to look in the engine bay for any shorting out of the ignition system, you would be supprised how easily this will happen especially if the leads are getting on a bit. This would definately cause a poor idle, and the cracking noise you hear could be a misfire, the arcing or even a result of the engine moving more than usual on the mounts effecting the manifolds or exhaust etc.
