Before I start, just want to make it clear that I don’t have a 599 on order nor am I a speculator!

The 599 F1 lists at approx £185K plus options. There are 15 for sale in the classifieds. Cheapest is £205K. (apart from 38K mile one). 2008 models are £230K.

Just curious – Do these cars actually sell near the asking price?

If I had bought one of the first, a couple of years ago could I still get my money back now?

If I ordered one when it was first announced and delivery was due next week could I make a quick £20K?

Are people still willing to pay more than list 2 years on? I can understand for the first few cars in the country but surely not still now?

I’m in no position to buy – just interested that’s all…

not 599 specific...but might go someway to answer your question...ive been looking for a car for sometime and came very close to buying an lp640...but the history turned out to be toxic...also i borrowed one for a w/e and at 6ft and 19stone(not muscle) i found it just too difficult to get on with...so about 3 weeks ago i went to aston martin and ordered a DBS(remember that a cpuple of months ago this was a 2 yr waiting list etc)...list was £164k....it will be delivered end of sept...this sept!...the dealer explained that in the last few months the waiting list has been contracting as financing for this sort of car is being withdrawn rapidly and people are simply asking for thier deposits back..thus creating a cast flow issue for the dealerships...so someone who actually has the cash is king.....to really drive the stupidity of these markets home...tom hartley have a DBS for sale..listed at £219k!!!..although i noticed its now back to POA...presumeably they got bored with people ringing up and just laughing at them..i understand that an lp640 and a 599 are not the same as a DBS..but the days of premiums are numbered as with most assets in a liquidity crisis/stagflation environment ...and its the luxury goods that go bang first.

I think the times of massive over list prices for a 599 are on their way out.

I've been keeping an eye on 599 prices over the last three months, and the 56/07 ones have been in the downwards direction the whole time, with many not selling.

I nearly bought a 07 plate one last week at 205k (which was 220k five weeks before), however I phoned a couple of main dealers before pressing the button and found I had a choice of two new cars due in Sept/October at list price to my exact spec.

Needless to say I decided on the brand new one at list price (only 10k more than the second hand one) which arrives in Oct. Being realistic if I keep it for 6 months I would know I’m going to loose money on it, unless by some miracle they stop producing 599’s!

Hope this helps answer your question in some way!

VXDave the list on a 599 is now £202,300 with a rumoured 2% price increase due in September

Maff, Car you mention sounds like my old one, Saffron?

Market certainly seems to have softened on earlier cars, you may make a small premium on a new unused car

I have also followed the 599 prices over the last 6 months since I put in a 20 grand deposit at HR Owen for a new one. I would buy one at list today but not a penny over as I think that the liquidity crisis will become worse. I think there must be huge spreads between what dealers demand and what you can get them for if you negotiate hard. Cash is king and some of these dealers might just need some soon.

The list has gone up, but that mainly accounts for the fact CCB is now standard fit, where it was a £12k option before which most cars had, so the actual price has not changed much.

I did look at the one Saffron's had, but really wanted a red one, and with a bit of work managed to get one down to the same price as Saffrons.

I agree cash will be king in if this trend carries on... I just hope I dont get my fingers burnt on my now un-needed DBS which arrives at the same time as the 599!!

Last time I looked at the approved used site there were a few sub 200k cars.

I have a feeling these will follow the typical Ferrari V12 route and start gaining pace downwards.

Of course this could just be wishful thinking on my part as I reckon this might be just the trick for me in a couple of years' time...

I guess we'll have to see what happens with the markets, fuel prices etc. And see how well they bear up in terms of running costs.

Anyone know how long the last new V12 (612) held its price for before it started free falling? Did it ever command a premium?

612 iirc was never a premium car...market disliked it from start...dealers had no choice but to buy it,so that they could also get 430s...was told by one main dealer a while ago that they would happily sell them at cost(about 155k)just to get out of them...as regards 599,in the current market i reckon a call around ferrari dealers would find a few cancelled orders at list...i f i was a serious buyer i would be getting my cheque book out and bidding 10k below list...if i was bying privately,i would be bidding at least 30k below list for a 1 owner car...

Browsing the 599 classified I noticed a Vinaccia Claret Metallic 599 with 50 miles on the clock for sale. Why would people go to the length of ordering special color cars only to churn them once they arrive.

Prices of 599's are really tumbling at the moment with MY08 at 210.000 which must be close to list or even below.

If it really is a bamford-spec car then the guy's earned more money in the time it took him to pick the colour than the car will have cost him!

I don't think they'll starve!

Have you been to Dubai or China or India recently? There's traditionally a waiting list for JCBs, so if the UK demand is down, they just ship them to their export markets!

They're also licensing their brand to all sorts of products, from crappy Chinese strimmers to mobile phones!

I'm sure he'll live, but JCB have just layed off 750 workers due to the fall in sales.

The Gulfstream V still seems to be regularly going to Majorca on shopping trips mind!
