Empty Roads

Is it me or is there less traffic on the roads. Excluding the School holiday weeks, my trips to work are taking much less time than they did a few months ago.

Has anyone else noticed this. If so I guess the reason is pretty obvious. I just wondered if anyone else thought the same?

The route into my last work place was direct through rush-hour traffic so I didnt notice any difference, but many journies seem to be taking a lot less time! Maybe people are stting themselves with the price of fuel and fuel strikes etc

Maybe we should keep this hushed up.

The Government have a cunning plan to save billions of pounds every year. Rid 75% of road traffic by increasing fuel costs by 75%. This way the wealthy 25% left able to afford driving will still return the revenue Government's familiar with from 6 months ago. Simple math.

Now I can get around in the same way as about 30 years ago, when everyone and her dog weren't clogging the roads up.

- Haven't noticed much difference to be honest, certainly hasn't kept the damned tractors from cruising A-roads for miles on end.

Sadly the A1 in both directions was pretty busy between M62 and Boroughbridge stretch, midday and again at 4.30pm ish. Seems everywhere I went today the roads were busy. I wish they'd put the price of fuel up and rid the roads of buffoons going to Tesco's and B&Q!!!

I heard petrol sales were down about 20% which seems about right to me in terms of reduced traffic. Unless I've got an over active imagination.

I have to disagree. Very few cyclists in my experience move into single file when a car approaches from behind (or maybe they just can't hear my car ). I appreciate that it isn't a requirement to do so, however, as you say it ought to be simple politeness and common sense.

I ride a bike myself (got to,coming from York ).

It's the blatant disregard of traffic lights by cyclists that pees me off.
Stupid and dangerous, frequently by adults who should know better.

If cyclists want respect from other road users, then obey the rules like the rest of us.

This old chestnut, again. All serious cyclists will cycle two abreast unless the road is very narrow/busy. Why? Safety, against aholes who don't know how wide their vehicle is and/or totally disregard whats in front of them. Also, a large group is easier/safer to pass as a group rather than strung out in single file. Treat a cyclist with respect and he will do the same.

When are they going to be stopped from that ridiculous racing up and down dual carriageways (time trials...I know ), in the process disrupting traffic flow, with artics pulling in and out all over the place and general mayhem being caused for miles on end.

One of my pet hates, and a serious road safety issue.

Yeah roads around our way have been quieter than usual which is nice !

As for the cyclists, saw one cycling outside the cycle lane and was in the road the other day, made me laugh

roads round us have been extremely quiet too , either a lot of people not going to work or a lot of car share going on

hmmm, I think its just that people dont bother going to work these days... apparently it pays to be a lazy Mo Fo and make up someth strange thing that can be classed as disabling.
