Time for a name change?
Discussion
It's four years since I named this forum. Originally it was 'Speeding and Plod' and then 'the law' was added when people started asking more legal questions.
We do benefit from contributions from the BiB making this a great resource for information and - importantly I feel - for seeing the other side of the story.
With that in mind, is 'SP&L' still a fair title?

Well I don't know about changing the name - a rose by any other name and all that, but after today's events with Tony (not the first time that a Plod has thought the only option was to leave us after receiving abuse), I was wondering how we could avoid the same happening again.
Would it be possible that you could allow people like the BiB contributors (or lawyers, or people like BobtheBench) who have 'expert' knowledge to use an icon that no-one else has access to when they are giving factual knowledge about a subject? Then if a Plod was giving facts (eg details about legal procedure), he (sic) could use the icon and that would be accepted as fact to inform a discussion. If he was giving opinion, then he wouldn't use it, and would be open to criticism for his views the same as the rest of us are?

Perhaps it's time to reintroduce the 'respect' facility(getting coat)
Trouble with that was that people weren't very mature with it. Instead of voting 'respect' they voted' this person does/doesn't agree with me'
Oops, just realised you were joking. That was a bit serious - nobody's taken the p*** out of me for a while - time for a night out with Flasher

You used to be able to flag your respect or disrespect for each member. They'd then get a number next to their name indicating how much respect they had from other members.
It proved quite controversial!

Could you have something like "on the road" or somesuch of that nature?
The issue I (personally) have is that I think the current title or slight variations might imply or suggest that you will get specific legal advice.
Which you won't.
You'll get invaluable feedback from people with similiar experiences, EXTREMELY invaluable thoughts, comments and advice from the resident BiB, along with our various legal eagles. And of course it's a valuable reference for the future.
I do also think that there is consistently the same or very similiar questions being asked over and over again.
Just thinking about it - 'on the road' imples some kind of sales rep or Pikey area.
Hummm .... pass.
