Following a previous post about tyres, anyone know what sort of differences in geom i should be looking to do from using R888 to ACB10. I have found the R888 a better rain tyre and used the ACB's recently, purely to see what there like, and found them good in the dry compared to the R888.

I thought the crossply tyre was meant to be run more positive than the radial or was it negative. I took the upper ball joint off and unscrewed it one turn. Nothing to the back. Its a de-dion R400. Seemed ok but still a ? mark around the settings, anyone help?

Thanks,

Sam

Crossplies need less -ve camber than radials. The front camber can be changed as you have already done. 1 turn is about 1/4 degree. I don't know the optimal settings for ACB10s but a search of the techtalk section of Blatchat should reveal the answers. On radials we are running up to 2.5 degrees -ve camber.
On the rear, the de-dion ears (the big lumps of ali between the hub and the de-dion tube) can be changed to give less -ve camber on the rear. Obviously this isn't a quick and easy solution so you will need to decide which tyre you want the optimal set up for. It is said that Avon CR500s are happy to work with the ACB10 settings so if you want ACB10s for dry track then you could use CR500s for road and wet track. I can't comfirm this as I have not tried ACB10s.
Many race series are starting to ban use of crossply tyres so if you are thinking of competing then bear that in mind.

Excellent, thanks for the info. Ill look into it further. The R888 is a great tyre in the dry(used them last year in a fury for wet and drys), as well but im looking for something a little wider, the Kumho V70 comes in 235/35-45/13, cant remember but trying to get them in the medium compound seems to be difficult, been trying for ages.
I went for the ACB's purely for width, but secondly i can get "used once" tyres from formula ford rears for next to nothing, paying full price for the rears get the cost of a full set for around £360. They were an experiment and also a bit of a learning curve.
The rules for tyres in my class at the moment are limited to any treaded tyre in the MSA blue book, although i will keep a look out for any future changes.
