Just wondering what number of Vixens there still are on the road. I've seen the Vixen register and there doesn't seem to be that many, but I know of at least 4 not on there (mine included).

Anybody got any ideas? smile

Hi Brian,

The nature of these cars means that they are continuously recycled or restored, spending periods on and off the road.

Getting an answer to your question of on the road may change from year to year.

My Vixen is off the road again on its second restoration, who knows?

I see your point. I was just wondering as in 10 years of ownership I've only seen two driving, and a few at shows/Back Home including an amazingly original one at the local event in Epping I attended when I lived there.

Some on the German register are complete wrecks too.

lol. Hope your not talking about mine - which now looks like much less of a wreck than it does in the back of a luton on the register...

cool

The truth is I guess there is no real way to know unless you either have access to search the Motor Insurance Database or the DVLA records. I also know of three Vixens in my area that are not on any registers.

Yes I have to agree you don`t see many..

I try to take my S2 to as many events as possible, but is rare to see another.

I know that some owners who have restored them don`t use them hardly at all..I guess because they are wary of any damage, and of course at present the prices are still rising.

Maybe we should have a roll call to see how many are actually on the road??

Cheers Roy

I believe in using the cars whenever possible. My Vixen was used as every day transport. Admitidly, I did have a scrape in it and eventually the chassis gave up. You cant do anything about the old lady who decides to side swipe you whilst shes driving around the block listening to the Archers on her radio. But you can easily repair any damage and learn from mistakes in your restoration techniqes.

Wrapping the cars up in cotton wool and rolling them out on nice days believing you are helping preserve the car is a bit of a misconception in some respects. Leaving them layed up can just as easily cause a different set of problems.

And although yes the value of these cars does seem to be creeping up, I believe there is a lot of hype out there.

The cars should be used (sorry,,, just my opinion). Yes I'm a glutton for punishment, I've owned my car now for over 15 years and never seen another Vixen whilst out and about in it.

Well after a 3 year absence, mine should be back on the road at the end of the month, and I intend to use it as much as possible.

Maybe with the exception of heavy snow...biggrin

Mine gets used regularly although do avoid the salt in winter now, try to keep it on the road all the time. The chassis swap (old for new)and a number of upgrades a couple of winters ago was completed in less than four months (had been collecting up bits and pieces for a couple of years prior to it. Dewi

Reading an old car mag the other night there was an advert for a blue 1971 Vixen for £6,995. It said that it's twin brother was in Beaulieu, SBK349J. Anyone know anything about these two, are they still about?
