My breakdown cover is due for renewal. I have been with NCI for the last 3/4 years and the renewal is reasonably priced (not least due to a complaint I made in the last year) at £127 for both myself and my g/f, the policy is on the driver rather than the cars. That includes full cover, home start, europe etc.

Before I agree the renewal I have heard of many people talking about the AA warranty cover that you can take out alongside the breakdown cover. I have done a little search and found this

can anyone clarify which level of cover folks generally go for? I assume you need to take out AA breakdown cover at the same time as this warranty? And if so, what sort of total cost are you looking at for full cover (is this on the car or on the person?) and warranty on top?

I think this is what myself and most other's go for. Its about £60 per year for me and covers repairs up £500 subject to a small excess.

thanks for that link. So it would appear I have to buy my breakdown cover through the AA to qualify.

Does anyone here have any experience of claiming under the warranty? Does the work have to be undertaken by a main dealer or anyone in particular? Do they have to authorise the work ahead of it starting?

Without trawling through the AA site I seem to remember that the cover is effectively an add-on to a standard AA breakdown policy. Its not a warranty as such in that you have to actually break down and be recoverred to a garage for it to kick in. It just offers a little extra peace of mind particularly with regard to HGF or radiator failure. The car can be recoverred to any garage. When my car broke down, it was recoverred to JPS.
