Two months ago someone attempted to steal some money (£3k) from our business bank account by means of a forged signature on a letter requesting a bank transfer .. luckily the branch queried it and ignored it.
Last week someone banked a false cheque for £12k, again supposedly signed by me, using a cheque number that had already been used by us .. the bank did NOT query this one, but thankfully - due to insufficient funds in the account - it got rejected (and we got charged for the privilege..)
Despite the bank saying they'll get their own fraud squad involved (they did last time, and I heard nothing) I have got Herts police involved.
Interestingly, the cheque number used for the second fraud was on a refund cheque that, according to the officer that saw us today, was sent to the camp of a 'known' family of travellers up north
As a general query - is this likely to uncover anything, or am I wasting my time? Do the amounts make it serious? It certainly doesn't seem that way to the bank.. I am obviously concerned it will happen again (although we have now opened a second bank account with chequebook for customer refunds ..)

john_p said:When you say, "a false cheque ... using a cheque number that had already been used by us" do you mean that the cheque was itself a forgery? If this is the case, the bank had no right (but ... hey, when does that ever stop them?) to charge you for the fraud perpetrated on them. Of course, if the bank thinks it can push the loss off onto you, then they won't think it serious
