Rob, usual cause is upper steering u/j - you can see/feel the play in the u/j with the offside wheel off.

Try looking at the U/J (universal joint - sterring arm) in right hand wheel arch. When did you last check it/cover in grease??

sorry for the hijack, last post (so to speak) Daz, upper/lower balljoints are possible but so too are the wishbone bushes and last of all in my case it was the carbon canister in the front inner wing (griff) loose

You will probaly find it's your arb link hitting your hub.
With the suspension on full lock and compressed you will have to imitate the problem with a jack on full lock.
£5 says it's thatbiggrin

so it could be a few different things then, is it easy for someone who knows what they are doing to narrow down or does it became a poss expensive process of elimination?

Well if the play is in the rack and pinion mechanism then i would make sure the guy that built it wears it mad but thats highly unlikely(and only a tit could mess that up)its bound to be what as already been mentioned UJ,s etc,so no big deal.
