Hedgehogs are Back

Will a nine day TV campaign really reduce child casualty rates?

remind me again, dont we pay directly to fund the BBC, why aren't the ads on there everyday on CBBC. I would rather see that than one of the beebs endless self congratulatory ads.

Well said. However if the campaign saves one childs life it's worth it. MoJo.

Yup I agree, they should be on all channels never mind just ITV or BBC...

At leastsomeone's doing something that doesn't involve blaming motorists. When I was seven, it was 'stop, look, listen'. I think that's been changed to 'walk, die, legislate' recently

I agree that it is a step forward from automatically blaming the motorist (who was obviously going too fast...). But as well as educating the kids I believe in many cases the bloody parents should be educated. The number of times I have seen kids run into or even just walk on roads in full view of mum or dad (normally with a fag hanging out of their gob wearing a football shirt) is scary

This is exactly the sort of thing one of the points in the anti-scamera petition calls for. As some of the previous posts have mentioned, this should be on all channels in among the kid's programmes.

Better not to have some kid bounce off the bonnet of your car by not stepping out in front of you in the first place than to have to argue the toss about how fast you were driving afterwards.

I have taken teacher training lessons recently and would have to say that from an educational perspective 30 second ads just aren't going to cut it in terms of retention. They'd be far better of sending out training packs to teachers and getting them to spend a day on the subeject in a classroom.

Just to put it into perspective . . .using the source data from the DTI website, it might be interesting to note that in 2001 child pedestrians made up 3.1% of all people killed on the road, and only 5% of all injuries.

Compare this with adult pedestrians, at 20.6% and 7.5% respectively - who need educating more?? Thinkofthechildrenism at work.

Oh, and what made me stop for a moment was that car drivers and passengers were 51% and 65% respectively, and motorcyclists 17% and 9%.

IIRC most injured pedestrians would fail a breath test!

I think the '9 days' is referring to new adverts.

As someone who now has reason to watch early morning kids TV I can confirm that these hedgehog adverts have been going on for as long as I remember.

That is so well put, yet so nasty at the same time
