looking to cut the roof up soon, need the boot space, so for those guys who have already done it please help.

I am looking for a rubber t section seal to fit on the top, fixed to one half of the roof, with the mating roof section to slip under when in situ, from memory I think this is the method that seasider has used, so any advice on exactly what seals to get and where from, or even other method of doing this greatly appreciated.

edited to add , roof being cut from front to back.

I have just done the split roof and haven't (as yet) put a seal between the two sections. By way of a test I used it for Le Mans last week leaving on Thursday and the rain was absolutely torrential as we left. Whilst moving nothing came in at all, and when stopped with the roof soaking it took in just a few drops at the back where the targa roof join meets with the drop down section. As I will only use the split roof when I have things in the boot I'm not now minded to do any more.

Eyup Clive.

My roof was finished the day we left for Le Mans, and tested as Halcyon Daze says, by driving in torrential rain on the way there and even worse on the way back. But I have to admit to not leaving it parked and uncovered in the really bad rain because I have a Leven cover.

My seal is the first on this page

http://www.woolies-trim.co.uk/c-132-sa-strip.aspx

Here are its details

++++++++

Name of product:
Self Adhesive Black Sponge Strip

Part No:
300-1/8-1/2

Price:
£0.82 inc vat Description:
3mm x 13mm (1/8" x 1/2"). Skinned on 2 sides only, but closed cell and virtually non-absorbant (technically only 5%). Special blend of synthetic polymers giving good resistance to weather aging and oil contamination. Self extinguishing when the source of ignition is removed.

++++++++

I've got loads of info and photos, email me if you want them because I'll be documenting what I've done for TheGriffithPages.

I'll email you my phone numbers back in case you want to chat about anything.

Bloody great mod though. Ask Halcyon Daze how easy it is to cope with a boot full of stuff now biggrin

Not a bad memory for an old fellawink

Transit windscreen seal, Nearside section seal under, Offside seal on top, small piece of extra rubber (inner tube) on the rear section that goes in the hoop...

No leaks this or last years LeMans biggrin

I was looking at the roof arrangement on a Smart Roadster.

A removable bar fits above each side window. Then a fabric roof slides forward with its edges secured to those bars.

What I was thinking was that this could be adapted to the Griff. The existing riser would clamp the side bars in. If the riser was modified to house a roller blind type then we only need stow a couple of side bars.

I don’t have the ability to make this. Does anyone here have skills and think it possible?

It looks like this in action.

The second one is Clarkson reviewing the car and the bit you want is 3.5 minutes in.

I don't know if anyone else has experienced this but with a boot absolutely full with stuff it seemed that the roof panel (stowed with the curved edged at the back of the car) has interferred with the operation of the boot solenoid. Certainly as soon as I began to stow the panel (once the pi**ing rain had stopped) I had issues with locking the boot which went away if I took the panel out and then took some of the kit out to allow the panels to stow a little lower. It could also just as easily be that I had so much stuff in the boot that I have damaged the wire to the solenoid and it reconnected when I took some stuff out of the boot but it might be worth considering a little extra protection for the solenoid (and its wiring) as that curved edge rests right in that vicinity if the boot is full.

Cheers

Andy.

My boot was being a pain in the bum all weekend, sometimes it would shut fine and others it would take half a dozen tries to shut it, but I put it down to the accident damage rather than the roof. It's an interesting thought and I'll check the wiring etc tonight to make sure there is no damage, although it could only be caused by pressure because I had the roof wrapped all the time it was in the boot.

I've looked at that and the problem you have with that arrangement is getting a frame sorted that will still fit in the existing space without the need to make modifications and making it at a cost that isn't prohibative.

I've had this happen on occassion and it's when the boot is full. It's because what is in the boot is applying pressure to the rear panel and moving it out of alignment with the lock. I've moved the weight around as you did to relieve the pressure on the rear of the car and it locks again. It never happens when the boot is empty or it's just the roof in there.
