Thinking about going to see a potential purchase at the weekend. The ad states some corrosion to the rear wheel arches. I know this is a problem area but any views on this one?

Corrosion at the rear arch is fairly normal for a regular mk1. It also looks like the sills have been done at some point, maybe worth checking out.

Seems fairly decent for it though.

I don't know what they want for it as I haven't made contact yet.

How can you tell the sills have been done?

They look black. I may be wrong as the photo is tiny, but it looks like my old Mk1 did when I bought it.

Black sills isn't unusual on later Mk1s. My Mk1 Berkeley had black sills from the factory.

Just had a mail saying the sills have been replaced. What should I be looking for here?

I stand corrected laugh

Not sure how you'd verify the quality of the job. Just make sure everything looks solid and the welds look clean and tidy (ideally you shouldn't be able to tell anything has been done) then if you buy the car make sure you get it waxoiled inside the sills.
