purely from a distance here (I dont know the car so it may be great 'in the flesh' for all I know) but judging by the advert, I wouldnt touch this if you're new to TVR.
I'd be looking for a lowish mileage 400 - something thats been used, perhaps 4 or 5 owners and 50k on the clock - and not modified.

Hi Fatrat, I am also on the look for a Chim. I'm no TVR expert but words like..
Possibly developing near 300BHP
Leven alloy bits.
Mileage is 'around' 70k
speedo was replaced
carpets a bit faded
plenty of stone chips
little bit spluttery under the cam
PX possible, something interesting or cheaper
these put me right off! He doesn't appear to have a clue about the car, nor care, and wants something cheaper as he's looking at a big bill to fix all the bits.
I wouldn't touch it with yours.

This could be a good car but a poorly written advert, you could take all the information in the advert and make it more positive, speak to the people that did the work mentioned in the advert, take someone that knows what they are doing, bid the owner in the lower bits and you may own a low cost car with a spare budget to do the upgrades, just another way of looking at things
Personally (and only going from the ad) I wouldn't touch it. Price wise it's right at the very bottom of the market - is it priced that way for a reason other than just a quick sale?
The seller seems very vague about what has been done, the condition and just general knowledge of the car as a whole.
There are several people on PH who have bought cheap Chims thinking they've got a bargain only to get their wallets very badly burnt so just be careful.
If thats your budget look for a 94/95 model thats been looked after or save a little more for a good 97/98 facelift (decent ones around 9-10k)

Bottom of the market price wise, so expect to find the chassis missing (as in rusted away...)
I found the comments interesting:
Full service history upto 2004 - so what about the last 4 years then ? TVRs need to be cared for!
little bit spluttery under the cam,so would benifit from mild tune up and Mark Adams chip set - so one asumes it had the MC1 fitted then a tune up with Mark adams (as you would expect). So why is it 'spluttery'now and how will having it tuned up again fix this if it didnt work the first time ?
YEs its a poorly written and badly thought out ad but even so....
For these and many other reasons just walk away.

Or drop into East Preston, West Sussex (Can't be far from you) and make an offer on mine

Thanks for all your advice. I think I'll walk away.....
I think that could be wise, just simply looking at the Engine bay and the interior WTF has happened to the car, and then why is it running a bit off if it's had a bit of work done... Sounds to me like there's an expensive service/fix required to get her smooth.PLUS, for your first TVR, do you seriously want a modded car? Your insurance company may laugh too loudly at you and deafen you down the phone.

OMG - Only just looked at the pics properly, what has he done to that dash and the gearstick??The engine as well loks in an awful state. Looks like a fair bit of surface rust on the chassis brace at the front on the engine.
History only up to 2004 - IMHO history is an essential with these cars, not only for the basic service but also as a way of finding out if other essentials need doing. If this has been scrimped on then what else has been?
