Is there any after market mod's that can be bought to get a 360 CS to 105db's max?

It'd have to work hard, as my standard 430 was 105db at 4k revs! The CS is a damn site louder.

The normal aftermarket noise reduction is a "supertrap" - if you google Demon Tweeks they probably have a few systems but the problem with them is they only reduce engine noise (in my experience) by a couple of dB's but tend to hugely increase back pressure which drops power and can upset the engine.

Given as each season noise limits get stricter and that there are increasing numbers of track side monitors the only real solution is a different exhaust system or back box.

Hows that work when sound regulations are getting more and more strict and my 355 came out at a measly 98db after having something taken out of the exhaust to make it louder? Is it just my 355 that is quiet?

And the last CS I heard had the challenge exhaust on it and was deafening, plenty enough so that through a tunnel I couldn't hear my own car.

Quite frankly it's a p*ss take how loud these cars are getting from the factory now. There hasn't been a ferrari since the 355 that can get onto (m)any of the UK race tracks in standard form - let alone with any form of aftermarket exhuast.

It's not just Ferrari either - the 996 GT3-RS can pass 98dB in standard form, the 997 GT3-RS cannot. It's a trend that needs bucking at some point before we end up with a distinct lack of proper sportscars on track days.

And that 105db was as a standstill with the active exhaust valve shut; when you're out on the track and its open the noise must be much much louder.

I understand your point, but why not get the noise limits raised rather than reduce the noise of the cars. I know, nanny state etc etc. Just have to find more remote and relaxed tracks.

with the best will in the world, they're not going to move donington park into mid-wales. i'm certainly not defending the NIMBY's - they've caused me more aggro than most people - but at the same it's incredibly naive to think we can make as much noise as we like without any repurcussions.

the sooner people accept that noisy cars are considered a nuisance and are only appreciated by the small minority - the sooner we can get on with the business of having fun in them.

I had a truely ironic experiance a while ago when I was at Donnington, just as the noise man was explaining that I was being chukced off in my (totaly standard) Caterham for being too noisy, he had to pause half way through as we couldn't hear each other for the 747 passing 200ft overhead!

Hmmmmmm.

By the way, Donnington is 98dB drive by now most of the time as are many, many others.

I am well aware of the reality of noise limits at UK tracks but I still love the sound of a proper ferrari V8 or porche flat 6 on full chat with a free flow exhaust system.
I still remember back in the middle/late 80's when you could happily run a BDG race engine on open pipes at Goodwood virtually any day of the week

The difference was that back then track days were virtually unknown and most circuits were quiet/dormant most of the time - now they seem to be used a great deal more and this increased usage causes lots of problems.

The airport at east midlands is subject to the same noise restrictions as the circuit. There is an average noise level that they have to stay within. At the circuit that equates to 30 cars @ 98dB every minute or two. At the airport it's more like 1 plane at 110dB (or whatever) every 15 minutes.

Don't know the exact figures but hopefully you understand the point about the "bucket of noise" theory.

I guess we will see the 105db get reduced in time so without some form of add on box/pipes my CS will not get on trackfrown

What I find strange is why can't the manufacturers achieve the same sound, but lower dB? What we all like is the quality of sound, not the amount.

Thats what I keep telling this pair of fellow PHers about the 355 compared to their Tubi-Decatted-348s. Although, they do sound very nice! I just need the 355 to be louder if anything to make it heard more!

I did a track day at Monza a few weeks ago.

There was no noise restrictions whatsoever, an unsilenced Ford GT that was there was considered perfectly ok, as were the Stradale's, Scuderia's and GT3RS's. I think the locals even appreciated the noise!

Then at Donington a week later 99db is considered too much...
