6 Series......any good ?

Having eventually realised that enjoying the thrill of speed has but been battered out of us by this government, my choice of vehicle has become somewhat more restrained.

I now realise that rather than getting from A to B quicker, I would rather get there in comfort. Hence the thoughts of the 6 series.

They certainly look a very comfortable (and capable) GT. I know the styling isn't to everyone's taste but I think they look quite slick.

Any pointers regarding them ?

Undoubtedly a great car if you like the looks (and I do). I have only test driven a 635d but it was a great drive.

I think if you are buying new then they are very expensive on depreciation. I looked at a new 635d Cabriolet but specced up it was £70k+. I thought that it would be worth about £45k in one years time and with 20,000 miles on it. I struggled with that. A second hand low mileage example is probably a bit of a bargain.

I have ordered an X6 for September delivery - probably spent too much on options but still should cost me less in depreciation.

The problem is that the government's main weapon against 'interesting' cars seems to be punitive road tax bands for newer cars. I could be wrong but I suspect a 6 Series is going to be almost as heavily punished as most sports cars. Lovely car though.

I hear what you are saying, they seem to plummet in depreciation but there seems to be some absolute bargains to be had second hand. You can pick up £70k worth of car for around £30k after 3yrs, that's a lot of car for your money.

yeah I was about to put a deposit down for a 645ci, 3 years old, 40k miles for 26,000 gbp thats before i haggle with the dealer,

If you have the money to blow 70k on the car, do it. But unless you cant find a very specific spec'd car I would go used and let someone else pay for loosing 44k,

Best thing to go to somewhere like lex leasing's site and see what numbers they offer for the 3 year balloon.
