I am thinking of changing to the above as the car only really gets used in the dry.

Are they a massive improvement over F1's which I have at the moment and do they tend to throw grit onto the bodywork? I have heard because they are soft rubber the fronts pick up grit from the road and through it onto the front wings/doors.

Thing to do is avoid gravelly stuff after hot use. Donington & Cadwell have granular access routes which can be a pain after track use. On the roads, not so much of a problem, mind you, i'm always very careful biggrin

Hi,

I use 18" Toyos R 888 on my Cerbera (front 235/40 R 18, rear 255/35 R 18). If you use your car only in the dry this tyres will transform the handling of your car into another world. The brake distance is much shorter, the warm tyres really stick on the road. The tyres are also better if the road is only wet, but be warned of the danger of aquaplaning when water is on the road. In spring and autum I drive standard 17" road tyres.

Thanks for that, looks like its worth getting some then.

Bought my R888's from http://www.camskill.co.uk
They were the cheapest I could find a couple of months back. Good service as well and very helpful on the phone. If I remember correctly the fronts were £134 and the backs were £139.
Made a big difference to the car as well but you do have to be careful in the rain.

R888's are the current tyre of choice for most of the TVR sprinters. They are superb in the dry with much more grip than any standard road tyres ,regardless of how good the road tyres are. - I have won the last 3 TVRCC sprint events using them.

They are also much better than standard road tyres in the wet unless the road is completely flooded with standing water - then you need to be careful.

To give you a feel for the difference in the TVRCC sprint championship those of us that use B list tyres such as R888's are handicapped by 2.25% over the standard A lits tyres. That may not sound much but they really are a league ahead. I use the GG compound which is medium but depending on your wheel size and tyre size you could use the soft compound (SG) which are even more grippy.

Two other alternatives are the Kuhmo and Dunlop B list tyres. TT Tim runs the Dunlops.

I would say that that may be more to do with the fact that YOU DRIVE LIKE A LOONY!

i also went to camskill, but after talking to them for a while, decided for my use (fast road, one or two a year trackdays) hankook rs2 was their recommendation, although I wouldnt normally rate the brand, that specific tyre is excellent! like glue when warmed up, and well priced, think you'd want to do a lot of track use to get the best use out of 888s, doubt you'll have them at proper operating temperature on the roads if mostly road driving.

What sizes of the RS2 did you fit, couldn't see any suitable sizes for the rear wheels on their web site myself confused. Had a similar thought about the Federal SS595RS at one point myself, but would hate to be the first to try anything on the cerb tbh hehe.

I'm looking for some 'wets' to put onto my spare RL17", so it would be interesting to see what people think of the other options.

The Dunlops DZ02 have transformed the Cerb' in the dry, and they have good damp grip, but I'm not sure what they'd be like in the wet, hense the 'wets'.

Are the advans softer than 888's then? good except at goodwood where they would be trashed after a lap then!

Not sure tbh, I was (humorously) answering the 'Are they black and sticky' question.
