Outrigger rot - Solution?
Discussion
I come from a classic Mini background, but have recently started looking at buying a Cerb, and because of that I've been looking at what I should be watching out for when buying, and thus the rotten out-riggers...
It seems the powder coat gets chipped off by debris flying up from the road, this then leads to moisture and grime getting behind the powder coat and attacking the unprotected metal. We have a similar problem with Minis, with moisture collecting under the headlights, and around the inner wing in general, chipping the paint and then rusting several key areas. The solution has been to fit plastic sheilds around the wheels, you still see minimal corrosion around the fixings, but in general its a hell of a lot less worse than what you'd get without.
Surely a sheild (plastic or not) could be made up to fit around these out-riggers and stop the powder coat being chipped off?
However, I've not yet purchased a Cerby, let alone had a good look at these out-riggers, so this is more of a passing comment rather than a well thought through idea.
