Esprit Heater knobs and Control panel
Discussion
I've had a lot of enquiries about the Heater knobs and new design Heater control panel shown on my car in the Gearshift surround install guide on LotusEspritWorld, so I've decided to produce batches of both items.
They have been designed to fit the 88-92 model Stephens Esprit, replacing the originals which look like they were liberated from Noah's Ark
The new knobs are supplied in sets of 4, comprising 2 large and 2 small knobs. The large knobs have a 7mm hex shaft hole and a locating slot for the spring pin on the shaft to drop into - providing a snug, secure push fit. The small knobs have a 6mm shaft hole and a grub screw to hold them tightly onto the shaft. The knobs have an aluminium alloy outer with a knurled grip ring and inner polycarbonate fitment. The price of the knobs is £35 per set + £5 p+p in the UK.
The Heater control panels have been designed as a direct replacement for the old fashioned panel, which Lotus carried over from the G -cars. There are two different styles available, one for the Esprit Turbo and one for the N/A cars.
The graphics have been redesigned and improved using contemporary styling so that they actually mean something to a modern day driver.
The Heater panel is backlit in a tasteful pale blue colour for visibility in the dark
The easy to fit panels come with full instructions and are priced at £45 each + £5 p+p in the UK.
Both the Heater control panel and knobs can be fitted without damaging the originals.
If the knobs and Heater panel are ordered at the same time, there will only be one £5 p+p charge.
Overseas customers should email me for an accurate price for delivery to their country.
Pics of the items are here on P2

Hi Alan,
that sounds good. But how can I remove the original ones (1991 SE)?
Cheers

Stephan,
I've submitted an install guide to Kato at www.LotusEspritWorld.com which shows how you can remove the old ones. He should have it up on the site soon.
Kind regards
Alan

fraserl,
If the control shafts are 6mm D types on the small ones and 7mm hexes on the big ones, then the new knobs I'm producing will fit.
Remember that Lotus used the same heater control panel for the 88-92 Stephens cars as the Guigiaro Turbos.
Take a look at the Install Guide on LotusEspritWorld when its on the site.
My Heater knobs are currently shown in the Gearshift surround Install guide.
Kind regards
Alan

Alan,
They look great! I do have one question for you; is there any way the backlighting can be green (as the rest of the illumination on my 88 Turbo)? Is it just a case of replacement bulbs? I am interested in purchasing the surround, control panel, knobs, shift knob and also the handbrake lever. Can you let me know the total cost for these items and also shipping to the US plus lead-time please? You can email me directly if you prefer (mchamberlain@runbox.com).
Thanks,
Mark

Southenddc,
The N/A heater panel should fit. Have a look at the pic of it in my Yahoo Photos. There is no A/C on that one.
The only problem I foresee is that I have to sell the knobs in sets of 4 (2 large and 2 small), so you'd have a spare small knob - no personal offence intended.
Drop me an email with a pic attached of your current heater panel and I should be able to confirm the fit.
Kind regards
Alan

vws,
If you can confirm the shaft dimensions on the heater and a/c controls of the V8 are 6mm, then the small knobs I'm producing would fit. I think all 4 knobs on the V8 are the same size. I'd then have to produce sets of 4 small knobs. This is possible but would depend on demand.

Chaps,
There's now a fitting guide in the Modifications section of www.lotusespritworld.com for the new heater panel & knobs.

Brett,
Have a look at my pics of the panels here. Look at the second page

You'll see I've catered for the N/A cars with a panel that just says 'Esprit' and no A/C. Should be perfect for you.
Kind regards
Alan
