New Corvette Z06-powered Commodore is fastest Aussie production car ever
A Corvette ZO6-powered Holden Commodore has gone into limited production in Australia, it has been reported. The car features the LS7 V8 powerplant and was first introduced as a concept at the Melbourne Motor Show in February.
Rumour has it that the new Holden super-saloon will make it to the UK and will become a new range-topping Vauxhall VXR8 later this year. Clearly Holden thought the Commodore needed a power boost to take on the M5 and E63 AMG and has upped its game with the 505bhp and 472lb ft LS7 HSV W427.
The production car is said to have changed little from the concept and will be limited to 427 cars in Australia, priced at a whopping $150,000 of their dollars (£72,000) apparently. The 7.0-litre V8 has been designed specifically for the Aussie saloon and features an advanced dry-sump lubrication system and a unique two-mode exhaust system designed to enhance the V8 burble.
It also gets a carbon fibre rear spoiler, six-piston brakes, 20in wheels, a custom induction system and an uprated limited-slip differential, clutch and Tremec TR6060 six-speed manual gearbox. The car is expected to sprint to 62mph in around 4.7 seconds and have a top speed of over 185mph. It will go on sale in Australia in August.
When the concept was launched earlier this year Scott Grant, HSV managing director, said it will be ‘quite possibly the fastest road-registrable (sic) supercar ever produced in Australia.’ At £72,000 it will quite possibly be the most expensive as well…
