I also have an English book on great drives in Switzerland (a gift from one of my foreign petrolhead visitors!). Will try to post up details soon (memory like a sieve!)

Anyway Rainer, regarding buying new tyres, do you have any suggestions for suppliers in CH that are good value? Given that my girlfriend just replaced all 4 tyres on her SLK through the M-B dealer (despite all my protestations!) for 1400 CHF, and I am 100% convinced she could have replaced all 4 tyres for much less.

Anyone that knows local tyre garages over the border in France/Germany, feel free to comment too! So far you guys have given me a lot of reccommendations for alternative sourcing of parts without having to resort to the Main Dealer network...

What were the tyre dimensions?
Since getting an official :-(((( price quote (from my AMG dealer, otherwise excellent plus even my local Opel outlet), they were way past an good price,.......
I bought quite often in Germany near were Dorothy lives, and claimed back the VAT at customs, otherwise
and thereafter I always bought tyres at a little family company, some 6 miles
from where I live, a place called Landquart, best prices for say 4 wheels on an SLK55 for around
CHF 1000-1200 Pirelli PZeroRosso (MO-Mercedes Org.), fitted,balanced etc.
Of course it is not a very "romantic" place, but excellent, fast professional
service,... and even excellent coffee :-) Try it on an
excursion, you (or I, as he knows me)can always get a quote to compare
with other offers.I doubt they speak English.

Andy, give me a call, we've some good ones here in Lörrach...part from the MB dealer who's a Käsbohrer anyway
You might have to order them and come a few days later as no one seems to stock anythng apart from boggo sizes for euroboxes... JMGS4

The book I have at home is called The AA Best Drives Switzerland. Costs about 7 quid from Amazon.

There are 25 routes in there, some look pretty good too. The book is part of a series and you can get them for other countries as well.
