Ok guys, engines hopefully getting yanked out this weekend. I've got most things disconnected, but whilst looking round the engine, I didnt happen to see any engine lift points. Am I missing something, or did TVR really expect you to pull the engine out by its manifolds?

Apart from that, anyone have any general tips? Much worth splitting the engine from 'box before hand, or better to just pull it out in a oner?

As always, advice is much appreciated.

Rob.

There are no lifting points on the engine...I had to make a harness out of old seat belts to lift my AJP out.

I took the starter motor off mine, and then lifted the engine out with the gearbox attached.

For what reason are you removing the engine, out of interest?

Didnt think there was any lifting points (it is a TVR designed engine afterall!), so I'll make some straps too then.

Engine has to come out due to a head gasket failure (coolant hose going into the water pump came loose whilst on the motorway frown )

So, if you left the gearbox in, did you have any problems with manuvering the gear stick round the underside of the chassis?

You'll have to undo the gearstick from underneath. There are four bolts if I remember rightly...you'll need to hold the gearstick up inside the car, I tied mine to the rear view mirror.

Another thing that occurred to me- whilst disconnecting everything from the engine, I cam across a braided hose that seems to go into the top of the engine underneath the coil packs, and joins onto a threaded connection on the wing a few inches behind the clutch master cylinder compartment. Before anyone says, I'm certain that its not part of the clutch hosing. Also, it seemed to be empty when I disconnected it.

Isn't that the feed for the oil pressure guage?

Whatever it is, I need to order one. Mine wouldn't undo, so it met some side cutters instead hehe

Yeah, engine's out now and it is just the oil pressure gauge feed. Wasn't too bad a job, but due to the somewhat inadequate reach of the engine crane, I had to position the crane side on to get proper access. That in itself meant that the 'box had to come off first. Good news is that its all pretty solid looking under the engine, but even then I'm looking forward to covering everything I can get access to with a few solid coats of por-15. Hopefully get all the old manky insulation renewed too. I gather there's some insulation that Steve Heath uses thats pretty good? Does anyone know where to get replacements for all the insulation that covers fuel pipes etc?

I would say a clarks 2 ton crane. The reason is thats a clarkes engine leveler he has connected.

I claim my five pound.

The crane I have is a Clarke CFC100 with a 1 tonne max capacity. Something with a longer reach would definetly have been useful though
