I was checking the car over yesterday and noticed a clunk coming from the front end when I turned the steering wheel. So, engine off steering lock off, and got the wife to rock the steering wheel side to side, while I was under the car, the noise was coming from the steering rack. Any ideas ? just under 13000 miles CV8 face lift model.
Thanks again....

Roger at the big fish warned me about rack trouble if you drive the car hard (track, stelvio). I got a cooler fitted and have had no trouble at all.

I had the same issue with my rack, the car had been tracked which overheated the fluid and blew the seals. I got one under warentee and put in a cooler on as well no trouble since.

just a quick one - are you sure its the rack? i had a clunk clunk on lock - investigated it further - turned out to be the front spring upper cups retainers for the springs starting to rotate and rust... worth looking at (only evident on a ramp really) as £80 is much cheaper than a replacement rack. worth doing the top mounts and bearings at the same time if it is.

if it is a rack look at getting a higher ratio one? mines got one standard as ita a hsv gts - steers much sharper than a standard car IMO
