Pedders Steering Rack?
Discussion
Not wanting to hi-jack the other steering rack thread, I was wondering has anyone had the new Pedders Quick Rack fitted to their 'Ro yet and if so, what's the improvement over the original?
It's summer holiday time for me nearly and I'm considering having one fitted as the steering on these things can be a 'bit delayed' as I found out doing a few leptons up the Ogwen Valley in Snowdonia a few weeks back.
Also, another quick question: any thoughts on suspension set-ups. I know there's the AVO (any problems), Pedders lowering won't work as I put 19" rims on so I wondered if any of you have gone down different routes to the others. Any input greatly appreciated. I'm not likely to track the car, but fast road (not saying there are any up here
) with some bends taken with some vigour are likely to be the order of the day...
Cheers

The quick rack sounds an interesting proposition. The Road Response pack combined with lowered suspension improves the car no end. I had the pedders combined with rear vxr dampers and front strut/damper assembly. Car was great initially but after about 6 months noticed the car was pitching slightly front to rear and I was loosing rear traction. Roger at Monkfish diagnosed worn rear dampers (which seemed to go harder than soften with time) now have a new set of rear pedders ('gas/comfort'?) has transformed it again - no loss of traction! In comfort terms initially I thought the combination (which also lowers the ride height) was a bit too firm but I can live with it. Been comparing it to my Mondeo ST lately and there isn't that much difference it seems. The Monaro is a heavy car, you can feel it, compared to Mondy, but handles amazingly well for it's weight. Am taking it to Europe for a few weeks and am looking forward to the smooth roads ... Even though the ride is a bit harder I could never go back to the standard set up

Already have the RR pac, but it's still 'lacking' and I had a Mondeo ST220 planted firmly up my arse for nearly 2 miles of winding roads. The steering just wasn't 'urgent' enough. Don't VXR's already have better ratio racks then the CV8's? If so, would it be worth getting one of those?

Yes the VXR's (HSV's) have a quicker rack I believe. I think this is your answer
Had to laugh re your ST220 experience
- they do handle really well, I'd say the steering is a tad better than my Monaro - which only has the road response bush kit at the mo. No, Monkfish are selling them, so I guess they'll be RHD! Iirc, the US guys were having problems converting them to LHD as I think Pedders Australia were doing the work..
So, going from replies so far, nobody has done it yet?
Waiting for Roger/Monkfish to weigh in here with some useful info...

Ok, for clarity! Jamie has only the springs not the dampers. He has retained the VXR dampers which have a higher spring seat to clear the 19inch wheels. In theory 19's wont clear on CV8 struts. the pedders kit uses the strut dimension from CV8. However, Gasman has 19's on his unmofified CV8 and they clear - just. With a diffrent brand of tyre and hence slightly different dimensions (only a few mm) it may well touch. You can reduce camber to give more clearance but thats far from ideal if you want it to handle.
We can fit Pedders stuff but its going to be tight and "may" have to reduce camber. AVO coilovers will fit all cars irrespective of wheel size (unless you go wider!)
Right, steering racks. CV8 and VXR have the same racks all model years. Variations in assistance level but same ratio, ie slow!
The rack we are doing is indeed right hand drive. Its not go kart quick, but its a much more natural feel, especially when pushing on through the twisties and avoids as Paul put it, "the delayed effect".
And we have just fitted one to our new demonstrator.

Oh I stand corrected, Monkfish even have a picture on their site - www.monkfishperformance.co.uk/2005cv8monaroframeset.html
Which alas, means I need to pay a visit to Roger in the next few months for my new rack
Cheers

I had a go in this car last week - I couldn't detect much difference in the steering pootling around town, but it was fairly pronounced at higher speeds (as Roger suggested it would be).Stunning car it has to be said

Thanks Roger. It's just something I've wondered about for a bit and the GTO chaps have said it's an improvement more, as said, when being pushed on the windy bits.
I guess to get an even better feel would be an idea to mate it up with an AVO suspension then.. I'll tell the wife it's an increased safety feature....
Looks like I'll be booking a day down at Monkfish soon then
