I would like to have a go at some hill climbing type sprinting but don't want to travel long distances to places like harewood hill.
Does anyone know of any local events to Berkshire in the SE?

Depends where you are but for example you're probably close to Abingdon and Goodwood, Prescott isn't far either.

Prescott. Gurston. Castle Combe. Silverstone.

Google to find your local club / series and have a look on their sites.

vikingboy,
I'd recommend that you attend a Hillclimb Drivers School day at Gurston, about 7 miles west of Salisbury. http://www.gurstondown.org/

Tunbridge Wells MC have a sprint championship that is SE based. The Hillclimb & Sprint Association championship has a list of venues on its website as well as the programme of ones it visits this year. Generally there is a bit of travel involved though and some very early mornings. I am up at 04:30 tomorrow to get to Prescott to get set up in time for signing on at 08:00.

I was going to add Longcross, Chertsey, but I've checked the website and it's been cancelled.

That's a shame as it looked like a good one. Hopefuly next year will see it associated with a few more championships and bring their competitors in as a result. With a bit more notice this may be a bit more likely. I would rather like to have a go at tackling 'The Snake'.
