Hi all,

my project has come on pretty well in the last couple of weeks with getting the engine running sweetly at last, new brakes and shocks
all round, new carpets, a wicked black and tan half leather interior scored from eBay for next to nothing and a dashboard I am 80% sure will work. (From a Nissan Figaro).
But...
Driving it over the past couple of days (for the first time) it is a serious and vicious bone rattler.
OK - it's a 20 year old Mini and I don't expect her to glide around like a Silver Ghost, but I've driven a lot of Minis and
this one is HARSH on the backside !
So I'd appreciate any suggestions, thoughts or advice on at least slightly smoothing the ride a little.

Best wishes
Tony

new (genuine) rubber cones will help, that and some new shockers.

the cones flatten with age and instead of a nice progressive smooth ride they are either 'on' or 'off'.

the fronts often compress to half the size, the rears dont move moch but often give the biggest improvement by been changed.

i tend to treat them as a service item now and stick new ones in any car i do. my new 'cheap' mayfair is getting a set!

The ball on the end of the cones goes in to a cup (I think nylon?). Check that they have not worn out. Also check that some one has not cut the cones to lower the car. Hope this helps.

I had a mini years back that had a simmilarly bone shaking ride, but superb handling with virtually no body roll on smooth roads. Turned out the upper suspension arms had completely seized on their pivots.
