Fighting Torque
Event for world's fastest cars returns in August
This summer sees the return of an event that will put the world’s fastest cars head-to-head on a one mile stretch of tarmac. Fighting Torque was originally set up to see how cars stack up in the real world, not just in stats at the back of a car mag.
Instead of the traditional quarter mile the event is run over a standing mile which means some cars will be closing in on their top speeds by the end of the strip. Last year the inaugural event took place and 92 cars gathered at Wattisham Airfield for a similar, although shorter test, over a ¾ mile distance.
Cars from major high-performance car manufacturers were strongly represented, such as Lamborghini, Porsche, TVR, Noble, BMW, Mercedes, Chevrolet and Dodge to name but a few. This year's event is at Woodbridge Airfield, Suffolk, on August 10, and cars will run in pairs along the main runway from a standing start. During the run elapsed time and velocity will be captured at the ¼ and 1 mile points using radar timing equipment.
Organiser Jonathan Kay said the event gives people a chance to compare their car against other exotica and find out how it stacks up. ‘This exploration of a car's outer limits is normally the preserve of automotive journalists who regularly conduct performance comparison tests between similar vehicles,’ he said. ‘However, Fighting Torque aims to gather close to 100 high performance sports and supercars together on the same day, at the same venue, and test them under the same conditions. The results will be definitive.’
The event is not designed to be open to highly modified cars and will be run as an ‘invitational’, with owners applying for entry. Cars registered so far include a genuine American Dodge Charger police car in full livery, a Lamborghini Gallardo, Maseratis, Porsche Turbos and GT3s, AMG Mercedes, various Nobles, Ultima, TVRs, and Dodge Vipers.
Entries are invited by applying on the Fighting Torque website - www.fightingtorque.org/supercar/ - and are open until 31st July 2008.

Its one thing doing the equivalent of a drag race, and something completely different doing the equivalent of a grand prix. Imagine how a dragster would muller an F1 car on a strip, and how an F1 car would wipe out any drag racer on any track with even slight bends in it!?
Edit;
This years info can be FOUND HERE
Last years INFO & RESULTS and HERE TOO.
edit: If you look at the website it says its just a comparison over a 1 mile strech
Both the Ultima and Noble that won last year can certainly corner too !!

It was a great event to attend last year, if anyone needs a co-pilot / photographer for the day let me know.

Last years contenders were sent advanced news of this years event last week by e mail. We have had 58 requests for invitations so far form last years entries alone. Be quick.

So in your opinion, what is the fastest out of an F1 car and a dragster?
Anyway....is it fair to say that whoever wins will not be the fastest unless redvictor turns up
