I was in Coopers Norwich Saturday and he came up with dozens with very low mileages available now and obviously plenty off list.

I can recommend the 123d M sports coupe, if you want a fun car without huge running costs! (and a surprising amount of space inside!)

If you follow the dash instructions and drive like a sissy, you will get 43-48mpg in mixed conditions (aircon on properly all the time). If you drive like most 'enthusiast' drivers - higher revs, more use of acceleration, later braking, occasional bursts of 'spirited' driving etc, you will get 38-40mpg.

I would imagine consumption would rise further on a track day/with nutter driving etc.

Go for it - I'm very happy with mine, even after M5s, M3s etc etc...

The wife just took delivery of one of these, I haven't managed to get above 34mpg out of it yet

I really need to try the 123d before going for a 330D next... would be interesting to compare how quick they feel, 330d being more refined may not have the same punch, but a wider rev range. What I really want if I can save up is the 323d that Alpina are bringing out in Nov, same engine but with 214bhp.

i just picked up a 135i m sport today and ordered it about 8 weeks ago, got a 'good' deal too - daniel @ sytner Sunningdale

dependent upon engine there are some pre built versions around

I have to say, going from M cars to the 123d is a bit of a climb down, but you do get a strange (dare I say, smug) kick out of driving past so-called 'environmentally-friendly' cars knowing you have twice the power and STILL use less fuel/have a lower impact on the world around! - and, on a practical level, I REALLY appreciate not having to stop for fuel every day!

Regarding the sound-track: fair point, I am sure those clever chaps at BMW are on to it though!

But you could also argue that every little helps. Even if you do take the long haul flights having a lower emission car is still better for the environment.

OK, so I'll try not to take this personally!

I agree that many BMW drivers (particularly of the older and more interesting cars) might not have the environment at the top of their 'care' list BUT:

If, like me, you have decided to do your bit (including a 100% reduction in air travel, so far, by the way) and you are a car/driving enthusiast, then these BMWs are a fantastic way to have your cake and eat it!

A move towards envirnmental concerns for many people is probably what is making my older cars less valuable by the day too, but I have to take that on the chin!
