S2 rebuild begins

OK chassis is now being powder coated. I bought the car as a project for a small consideration so I can afford to get things right on the rebuild. I hope you guys can give me some advice over the next year. First thing is the rear trailing arm bushes. The TVR shop list as £150.00 inc. VAT for 4. Sounds a bit much any ideas?

Welcome and good luck, please post as many pictures as possible while you are re-building your new P&J.

Adrian Venn - Exactly TVR of Coventry (02476 596883 or 07956956042) has an excellent reputation for rebuilding trailing arms, I would suggest that a quick phote call would pay great dividends. I belive thet the bushes can be bds to change

Thanks Norman. I have emailed Adrian to ask if he sells the bushes. I will post pics soon.

I don't think Adrian was selling the bushes separately - he had a few for refurbishing trailing arms but I know that he said that the costs to him had just gone up as well, and I don't think he's buying them any cheaper than that price.

I've also just bought the front end all in poly, though I'll be happier when they send me the final bush thats missing (I've got 15 out of 16 for the front )

Incidentally anyone else reading this - my trailing arm bushes looked fine till I removed them - all 4 were shot.

My chassis is due back from the powder coaters on Saturday - so it will be good to compare notes.

I googled and it took me to 'The TVR Shop' but in actual fact now I've looked again the web address is http://www.racetechdirect.co.uk/ and they want £31.75 each + VAT + delivery.
The tvr car parts price sounds much more reasonable, thanks for that.
This is all new to me, so bear with me. I'll try to work out how to post pics of the rebuild. Will you be posting progress updates?

Rebuilding cars is a bit beyond me but I can help you with sharing pics!

Upload copies of your pics to a host site (I use these guys http://www.imageshack.us/ ) It's best, although not essential, to resize to 750 pixels wide first - if you don't PH will resize them which will affect the quality and also mean a slower download time for anyone looking at the pic.

Then type your post and insert the link to the uploaded image as [pic]type link to image here[/pic]

I had already viewed your post (several times) really useful. My car was already dismantled, so I have got to work out where it all go's and there are some other issues. More on that later.

Thats chassis looks pretty good.

I hope you removed the rubber strips stuck on in the middle - I didn't and the shotblasting doesn't touch it - because apparently it bounces off. I thought it would take it off.
My powder coater is a top bloke and said he'd sort it for me.

I can't say the same for the shotblasters, they snapped off my swirl pot studs and one of the exhaust mount studs at the back (different on V8 to V6), so I had to replace those (weld) before it went to the powder coaters.

Did you send anything else to be blasted / coated?

I've sent my trailing arms, swirl pot, fuel tank cradle and pretty much all the other bits that were powder coated.

I also sent my exhaust manifolds and Y piece to be blasted only, I'm now spraying them with high temperature paint, but I bought plain black and to be honest I think it looks a bit naff, its more of grey, I guess its due to the type of paint.

That picture brings back memories, however it doesnt look too bad, fair play for having a go at it, Im going to look for another rebuild and I think I may have found one, however I need to fix my engine first - 3 weeks hopefully, Good luck - its a really enjoyable job.

Chris The chassis and body have been in a lock up for over 10 years so yes they are pretty good. BUT there is a problem that I thought I had sorted until earlier today. Previous owner had stated that this replacement chassis was from a S2, I had my doubts but it now seems sure its from a S3. It's not likely to be a problem but I put a hold on the powder coat, until I can take a check dimension for the height of the rear shock posts against the height of the wheel arch on the body and make sure there is no conflict. I have been having trouble when offering up the old S2 rear shocks. Adrian@ and George of Absolutely Shocks had put my mind at rest to some extent, but the previous owner tells me today that the posts are taller than on the original chassis!! Still I knew it wasn't going to be straight forward, or he would have done it.
Yes I sent most of the bits and pieces off to be blasted, zinc coated and powder coated all being done at the same workshop. I made sure I took all the rubber bits off. My cousin is very handy and made up a drift and used a press to remove the trailing arm bushes. He tells me they are in good condition, but I think it would be a false economy to try to reuse them. Looks like you had a mare with your bushes!

yes another S3, Mine was a challenge and you are in the same boat, whats original?, mines did have lots of issues due to things that shouldnt have been there - wtf is that, you must be having a laugh, I didnt expect that! - all sorts of things, honestly I enjoyed it - 5 months of evening work. I have put on 4 kilos since finishing (2nd May). Now I need to fix the engine - something to do.

my mid life crisis:

- picked it up a 5pm - hospital at 9pm - I rang the wife up.

So I got the TVR. Which is much safer - well sort of.

Anyway when the wife left me
- it was nothing to do with my mid life crisis, apparently it was because I didnt listen to her - or something like that, to be honest I wasnt sure what she was saying.

Brilliant!
I had the bike and decided about time I bought new kit, helmit, gloves and trousers. The next week before I'd been out in the new kit. The bike was booked in for it's service new tyres and MOT. They found so many problems with it, it was a right off. That's when the TVR came up.
I will get to wear the gear though. So next year at SCH if you see a 'S' thats either an S1? or possibly an S2 or possibly an S3/4 with a slotted bonnet!! driven by a crazy mixed up guy in a crash helmit and leathers that's me!
