Griffith front tyres - 205 55 15?
Discussion
Has anyone used 205/55/R15 tyres on the front of their Griff?
They ought to fit, but I am a little concerned by changing the size that much. My Griff has the standard Estoril wheels and PAS if that makes any difference.
My usual choices of 225/50/R15 or 215/55/R15 are not available in tyres available locally.
(I don't want R888s - I have other tyres for dry track days
)

)You may want to visit tvr monster and speak to andy,
If you want advice on griff set ups he seems to know what he is talking about.
I realise that you have said you do not want the 888's but i have found them to be better than my previous toyos even in damp/wet conditions... only my opinion.
I was advised to increase to 235's on the front and reduce to 235's on the back.
I have found that the 500 (94) i run is more sure footed than before.

I already have V rated tyres, but they are at least the correct size. The insurance co didn't mind that particular mod at all. (They weren't so keen on some of the others...
) I don't drive that fast on the road anyway.
I really only need some legal tyres to get an MOT and so I can drive the car to track days, autotests & the Growl, so I can put off deciding whether to go for new wheels, the 5 stud hubs & big brake conversion for a while longer. So it looks like some of "cheap" 205 width tyres will be sufficient for this purpose.
I'll save tuning the handling until I wear out all the tyres I have and decide what road wheels the car will have...

I have some part used Bridgestone SO1's - 215/50/15 - if its any good.
That is the correct size for a PAS equipped Griff 500 matched with 245/45/16 on the back.dumbfunk

Really? I was going from the information in the owners manual. Maybe the dealership upgraded you based upon their preference or more likely, TVR had a supply problem with 215s that week and just stuck something else on
Must say though that front end grip has never been a problem in any TVR I've driven!

Launched with 215s this tyre size soon became difficult to obtain and impossible in UHP rubber so TVR switched to 205/55, later adding 225/50 as an alternative. As a rule of thumb most of the non-PAS cars have 205 and the PAS cars have 225 but there are many exceptions from new. The 7" rim should ideally have a 205 tyre.

IMHO the most important consideration is to fit UHP rubber.

I've got some part worn Bridgestones you can have which were on my car when I got it......
not sure how much it would cost to them to you, unless you know any heading your way.....
Thanks Hoover. But I fear postage costs will exceed all sense and reason since I live on the Isle of Wight. The usual comment they make is: "That's overseas sir."not sure how much it would cost to them to you, unless you know any heading your way.....
I have sourced some new 225/50/15s from Black Circles now, so all is well again. (apart from the MOT emissions test, but that's another story)
