Headlamp cover replacement after deer mod!

Can anyone give me any tips on replacing these?
After an "incident" with not one but two deer (v.v lucky indeed...not for the second deer sadly) I have cracked cover. Decided to replace the other one as well has it has small marks and will look naff next to a new one.
Collected 2 new ones today from Racing Green and mastic stuff BUT they come 40mm oversize, as cut and trim to fit.
Tools reqd and technique greatly appreciated!!
I did speak to the guys there and they use one of those small windy powered
sanding discs and 5 hours labour....time I have (after the summer) but not the handy gadget!
Thanks

I just used a dremmel and a diamond blade cutting disk to trim a lip off some new rear lights for the Griff. It absolutely ate the job. Not cheap at about £25 for something the size of a £2 coin and thinner than a credit card
Mind you, I think that HRG is right and you should be absolutely certain before trimming them to size

I find the easiest way to trim the cav lights is on a bench grinder.

Here is a link for you
a how to guide for taking them out and putting back in......
Courtesy of griffsmith, the hardest bit of the job i found is probably re-aligning the pods, found that i had to wedge some sides with rolled up carboard to get in line, apart from that not to bad

Whoa there don't cut anything off, They don't drop in from the front they are fitted from the back and the lip is required to fix them to the bodywork. You have to go in through the wheelarch covers and remove the whole pod
There used to be a link to a guide how to do it but it's gone. If you mail me I'll send the document to you.
