Curiosity about this video of a Supra:

Same run from inside:

It doesn't appear that he shifts. What type of transmission is that?

8.45 @ 162 isn't bad either smile I think those insanely fast supras are inline 6 cylinders with turbo setups (?)

Here is the same car out on the street.

I use to have a supra (owned for 7 years) That one is a 3 speed autobox i beleive - i think he's had an extremely large single turbo setup (T88 or bigger) (Most of the owners tend to opt for a single turbo conversion for more power), That car also has a rather large shot of Nitrous oxide.

With supra's it's very easy to get up to the 400-450bhp mark with just a few cheap modifications - any more bhp requires lots more money ;-)

I'm sure someone else will be on to add more..

Craig.

Do you think a 1000hp Supra can take on a 720hp Ultima GTR? I know some Supra owners that are pretty smugged about their rides and they'll brag all day about how their cars can blitz litre bikes.

Personnaly - not a chance.

I know a 1000hp supra it fast - but don't think it's quite up to GTR standard. ;-)

Has anyone had an Ultima that ran 8's in the quarter mile? How would you go about getting there, more traction off the line? More HP?

you will need well over 1000bhp and one hell of alot of traction to get into the 8's! its seriously fast terriorty!

to put it into prospective 1000++bhp corvettes and F-bodies normally run 9's and thats with fully tunned setups.

You would think the weight savings of the Ultima would bring the HP requirements down a bit (?)

I'm speculating, but if the factory 720 GTR can do 9.95 with street tires, I would think with slicks you could easily get into the mid-low 9's. So maybe 800-1000hp with slicks and you are in the high 8's. I guess the best guy to ask would be Jeff Shwartz (sp?, sorry)

I dont think it's possible with the currently available, reasonable priced ($16k or less) transaxles to get in the 8's with an Ultima in the 1/4 mile.
I have the HP to do 160-165mph in the 1/4 in my GTR, but being able to shift quickly is the main issue, as things happen really fast.
Maybe with a $40k sequential transaxle, some suspension work, launching under boost via my Big Stuff 3 and drag radials it is possible.
I have some drag radials I hope to experiment with soon.

i think the fastest 6speed manual car is about 8.9! thick that was a Viper. have a look on utube for some vids of very fast vipers. as jeff says it would be difficult to achive without major money being spent.

Cheers

Chris.
