Hey all,

new to the forums, and im tempted, well tempted is the wrong word, im lusting after a Monaro VXR and was looking for some feedback from owners here.

Ive spent nearly two hours reading thread upon thread here about em.

What ive read, its bad bits would be prob with auto box, but id prefer a manual, and paint flaking of door handle and so on.

ya can get about 16 - 20 mpg depending how heavy your right foot is.

Im currently driving a Honda Accord 2.2 diesel and i wanna change to something that can handle well, got the power and is understated and this is whats draw me to this motor.

My other query would be, im living in newry in Northern Ireland, and wanted to know anywhere that does proper servicing and allignment etc.

Any help would be great.

this is the motor im looking at http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/581287.htm

cheers

You won't have any probs with an 'auto box' in a Monaro VXR, 'cause they don't exist - all Monaros imported by and sold by VX are manual. There may be one or two auto Monaro's in UK (I know of only one), but these would be personal imports. The probs that some people have reported regarding the 'auto' is in the VXR8, which is not a Monaro.

Tyre life depends mostly on your right foot, 10 - 15k miles is not unreasonable. As for fuel econ, I picked mine up yesterday after having my supercharged CV8 pumped up to 9psi and remapped, drove home M25 and M11 at about 75 - 80 leptons and averaged 27.1 mpg.

do you realise, that every letter you typed increase my need for a VXR by a percentage. 50 words so now i want one 50% more biggrin

What are the service intervals and general costs like?

10k but a lot of us change the oil more regular than that out of sheer enthusiasm in thinking it will make our cherished beasts run better! Costs for servicing = peanuts £160 for my last I think and most of that was expensive oil from Mobil 1 yes Try 6k miles for the rears though if you drive like some .............

Just to clarify, he means none sold by Vauxhall. The vast majority of Monaros in Australia (at least in WA) are autos...

Mate you will never regret buying a Monaro. Not just because of the power, looks or exclusivity(sorry if i spelt it wrong) There's no feeling like it. we've never looked back. If you buy it (go on you know you want to) you can come and show it of at Santa Pod on august 16th driving. Give you a chance to meet your ne family

I am in the same situation. Desperately lusting after a CV8 or a "big boot" VXR - need to get a new family wagon for the wife first. Oh and some windows, and a garden rolleyes

I now just read this forum every day and still haven't come up with a single reason not to get one. Relatively cheap and reliable for the power, huge V8 grunt, seats the whole family, looks cool, great indie network to offset crappy Vauxhall, and can be upgraded as I go. cloud9

Clarkson had one for his original test according to TG magazine in early 2004. The photography clearly showed this. No mention of the test being done in Aus. This was before the Pendine Sands caper...!!!

Did the test actully take place? Was it a 'psychological' test?

No UK autos then

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/517487.htm

an alternat to the vxr, tuned to same output but the savings will give you a lot of extra for mods like a supercharger

Are you sure it was a Vauxhall though? Some of the early tests were done with imports.

Not quite true. I have an auto Monaro, but I think it is the only one in the UK. Coincidentally it was the first Monaro imported, and is not a Vauxhall. Highly modified, and I'm not presently looking to sell, but if anyone HAD to have an auto Monaro, money talks.

Greens have a nice 04 VXR, (ie) the Large boot HSV Monaro aka GTO. Its got the 5.7L engine, but its £15k from memory, so you get HSV with large boot. My favourite one smile

It was badged up as a Vauxhall but from memory it was dark blue (not impulse)
