engine rebuild advice

As promised I'm in my thread 'one less Tuscan going to Le Mans' I'm now in search of the replacement for my P&J after the big off a few weeks ago and am after some advice re engine rebuild.
I spend months waiting for the right one to come along before I bought my last one (late 2001) and it ticked almost all the boxes - the main one being the full TVR Power rebuild to 2005 spec - but I'm now considering a newer model, maybe as new as 2004 if the budget will stretch
My question is this: would a 2004 model be as likely to require the rebuild as a 2001? Were TVR still using sub standard parts at this time that need to be replaced? If so when, if at all, did they start to build the engines with the stronger parts? Should I always look for a rebuilt engine?

My understanding is that from 2004, parts used did improve resulting in far fewer requiring a rebuild. Or it could be that by this time owners new that you had to keep an eye on the oil levels and dind't thrash it until it had been correctly warmed up.
However i'm sure there has been 2004 engines that have required a rebuild(not many)but far fewer than engines built before 2004. I also believe that the 3.6L has proved to be less likley to require sugery than the 4.0L of the same age.
Does buying a 2004 engine mean you won't at somestage need a rebuild well probably not ( who can tell) but it will definatley make it far less likley.

I have a 3.6li, built late summer 2003, rebuilt Aug 05 @ 10.7k miles. Always treated well, am 2nd owner, former was a PH-e; to be honest, however much you look around, you could still be caught out with poor parts, or worse still, a bad rebuild.
