I have a enoying ticking behind the steering wheel like a relay or contactor is constantly going on and off. This only occurs at low revs 1500-3000 rpm and it seems like it is related somehow to when the car is almost knocking (pinking) with weak mixture or something.

Do you use lamda adaption?

I get a really odd ticking noise from behind the dash but only on overrun. I've looked but can't find anything obvious.

I have owned by 4.5 for over two years, and have always had this odd tick as well. It is not constant but every now and again. Can be driving along or at stand still but it is very noticable. Have alaways wondered what it is.

Are you sure its not the engine?

Exhaust blowing on one cylinder can sound like a ticking noise.

Just a thought!

But I have found the air con thermostat, which in under the dash on the drivers side. Could it be associated??

Had the same thing on the Cerb and found a loose hose or cable underneath and just cable tied it to something else.

I wondered if it could be to do with the oil pressure gauge.

its the non-return valve in the brake servo .. it's fed off only one inlet and receives a strong but infrequent pulse .. many people fit an in-line valve (such as used to protect brake servos from turbo boost pressure) in the feed pipe to prevent it

Hence on over run? Could you point us to such a valve. Never looked to see where the servo is fed, something else for the weekend. Thanks.
