Hubby took the car to fill it up this morning. As soon as he pulled out of the service station the engine is miss-firing and certainly not all cylinders are coming out to play. We contacted our dealer service who reckon it is probably water in the Optimax. Are they being kind or is this the first sign of a terminal prob? We cant drive the car so a trailer to dealer on Monday is the order of the day. At least the summer is coming to an end. Still love my baby even though she does drive me maaaaaad sometimes. Oh well fingers crossed.

baby is back, picked her up friday evening, god what a difference from the friggin nissan!!. just getting to know her all again, 70 miles an hour, christ that hurts, white van man is having a field day at the moment on my way to work... just biding my time!!!

but people word of warning, any low rev engine misfire, get your beasty back to the dealer, its not worth taking a chance with your cats or causing other damage.

and on a plus note, a big thank you with knobs on to the lovely dom at tvr power, and our dealer in henley.

we know things go wrong with these fine beasties, but this was a classic example of customer service alround.

couldn't have been more helpful especially on the invoice front and the "keeping us totally informed".

thanks dom and rich.

now off to get sweaty with her!!!!

Pulled from another thread

Hope its not terminal

Hmmmm, my car was parked next to TVR Totty's last week hope its not a case of Tuscanitis spreading or maybe you swapped plates Julie .
All joking aside, we are still totally committed to the car whatever the diagnosis. Mind you a bottle of wine does put you in a generous frame of mind.

Watch this space for outcome of a full examination on Monday.

Hope it all works out OK in the end Diane, Topaz Tuscans are usually more reliable (he says with everything crossed for you and I!).

Lets us know how you get on?

Don't panic Mrs Mainwaring - this is a case of dirty fuel I'm sure

We don't need any trouble from Lord and Lady Topaz, well not on the mechanical front anyway!!!!!

good luck

My Tuscan used to behave dreadfully after the tank had been filled, turned out to be a problem with the tank venting carbon cannister being blocked. The fuel pump has more difficulty pulling against the vacuum when the tank is full and has less expandable air in it.

Sure hubby didn't get distracted - Big Blonde, etc - and fill it up with diesel?

Jigs, you have a sick and twisted mind, my hubby wouldnt dream of filling a Big Blonde with diesel he has more class than that, and certainly knows only to put the best stuff in

Hmm! Class or not - big blonde - nozzle in his hand - anything could happen - he wouldn't be the first to let primal forces prematurely squeeze his trigger!

Now you are obsessed with obsolete cowboys I really do think you have a problem. My hubby has no interest in Roy Rogers or his quadroped. Enough!!

You may just be suffering from a broken down spark plug lead, I had this and it runs like a dog as it is only on 4 cylenders (the plug leads are set in pairs, the spark earths through the other lead in the pair, so if one lead brakes you loose 2 cylenders)

Get it checked and hope it is a nice (relatively) cheap plug lead!

Remember once that I filled a BMW up with unleaded and had huge problems, miss firing loss of power etc.Turns out the garage had its tanks surveyed, apparently this used to be done by pressing them up with petrol.Unfortunately due to safety regs this is no longer done and water must be used, resulting in some water being leftin the tanks.Don't now how true this is but it sounded feasible as quite a few people had similiar problems.Might be worth having a word with the garage as they might have had other complaints.

AA responded within 1 hr this morning (wouldn't allow booking in advance over w/end) and the Tuscan waved goodbye. Walldonways rang me to say it arrived and are now on the case and it's still under warranty - so fingers crossed nohing too serious. They think water in petrol and reason it doesn't misfire until warmed up is because water sinks nd doesn't circulate until heated up. So, if proved to be bad batch of Optimax, I'll be off to the petrol station to complain. It all started after a fill up, afterall, and dealer said sometimes a crack in the forecourt could seep down to reservoir. We'll see.

Just a point in general ALL petrol tanks contain water. This does two things one provied a level to which the draw off pipe can be situated, and any muck can drop our of the fuel.

It could be possible, although its never happened to me (worked on the forecourts)that this water could get drawn up it the tanks are very low

If it started that quick surely it can't be water in the fuel? What's the "dead-space" between the tank and the injectors? My guess is that the fuel pick up is not at the bottom of the tank and that water would sink to the bottom. I think this is different problem, not water in the tank.
