Imagine you are looking at a thread like the one in P&P at the moment about Worst Phrases.

How many times have you had to read a hugely long multi-page thread before you post your nugget of information to make sure no one else has said it. How many times have people said "I haven't read the whole thing, but..." or "has anyone said?" and everyone groans because it's the 5th time.

So what about a search box at the top of the page when you're viewing a thread where you simply type a word/phrase and press return to search within the current thread. I can't see the server overheard being large as it is restricted to just one thread.

It also might cut down on use of the dodgy search function that must put quite a strain on the servers when they check x 100,000s of posts.

It really is fluff of an idea at face value but I can see it being damn useful.

I like fluff and ideas so have added it to our future dev list... we are approaching the end of some major dev and hardware work and will be able to start picking off these ideas over the next couple of months. thumbup

Get Firefox, go to thread, CTRL+F, enter search word, Firefox searches within page. Not within the thread, admittedly...

stop spoiling his fluff idea.

Besides, would you fancy doing that on 140 page thread?

and you don't need to hit CTRL F if you have it set to autosearch on type...

Not so bad if you choose 80 posts per page tongue out

I was reliably told earlier today that smart arse comments don't make you look smart, just an arsewinkhehe

but then that was by someone that thought a plane wouldn't take off from a conveyor belt

It could potentially double the server load

as you make one search on the database and then you you search the database again to find the word or phrase of choice.
